Role Title
Concrete Operative / Groundworker (Concrete Works)

Project Environment
Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) construction site, operating within a civils and infrastructure setting.

Project Location and Duration
This role is initially based on a project scheduled to run until September. There is potential for continued employment beyond this date on future projects across other locations within the UK, subject to workload and the individual’s willingness to travel and work away as required.

Role Overview
The Concrete Operative will support civils construction activities on a BESS project, with a primary focus on the safe and accurate placement, handling, and finishing of wet concrete. The operative will work under the direction of site management and in accordance with approved method statements, drawings, and construction programmes.
This is a hands on role delivering concrete works as instructed, not a supervisory, engineering, or design position.

Pay (Depending on experience)
£150 – £200 per day
£18 – £22 per hour

Key Responsibilities

• Pouring, placing, levelling, and compacting wet concrete for foundations, slabs, plinths, bases, and associated civils elements
• Supporting concrete pours in line with agreed sequences, tolerances, and site instructions
• Screeding and basic finishing of concrete surfaces to the required specification
• Working alongside formwork, shuttering, and reinforcement already set out by others
• Assisting with preparation for pours, including area setup and protection of adjacent works
• Ensuring fresh concrete is protected and cured in line with site requirements
• Using hand tools and equipment associated with concrete placement when authorised
• Maintaining a clean and safe working area during and after concrete operations
• Following all site health, safety, and environmental controls, including COSHH requirements related to cement and concrete products

Health, Safety, and Compliance

• Comply with all site rules, H&S legislation, and client procedures
• Work strictly to approved method statements and risk assessments provided by the contractor
• Use PPE as required for concrete and civils operations
• Stop work and escalate concerns if unsafe conditions are identified

The operative will not be responsible for structural design, quality sign off, engineering decisions, or supervision of others.

Skills and Experience

Essential

• Proven experience working with wet concrete on construction or civils sites
• Ability to safely place, level, compact, and finish concrete to instruction
• Experience working around plant, formwork, and reinforcement
• CSCS card (appropriate level for skilled groundworks or concrete operations)

Desirable

• Experience on energy, infrastructure, or utility scale projects
• Familiarity with concrete pours for equipment bases or reinforced foundations
• Previous work on live construction sites with multiple trades

Reporting and Supervision

• Reports directly to the Site Supervisor or Site Manager
• Works as part of the contractor’s site team
• All works carried out under client or principal contractor supervision
