Full job description

Scotland’s aquaculture sector is evolving, with new opportunities for those looking to build a hands-on, outdoor career in sustainable fish farming and marine operations. We’re recruiting practical, reliable individuals to join our client’s sea site team, where you’ll work directly with salmon stock and learn from experienced colleagues in a supportive, safety-focused environment.

About the Role

As a Husbandry Technician, you’ll be part of a close-knit team responsible for the daily care and welfare of salmon stock at sea. Working alongside the Site Manager, Assistant Manager and Skipper, you’ll support feeding routines, monitor fish health and contribute to the smooth running of site operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Feed and monitor fish appetite to optimise growth and feed conversion
  • Operate manual and automated feeding systems
  • Monitor fish health and welfare on a daily basis
  • Remove and record mortalities, identifying and reporting any concerns
  • Check and maintain net integrity and site infrastructure
  • Support grading, splitting, treatment and harvesting operations
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping and site cleanliness
  • Follow all health, safety, welfare and environmental procedures
  • Support colleagues and assist with training junior team members when required
  • Participate in a weekend rota

What We're Looking For

You don’t necessarily need aquaculture experience - just a strong work ethic, good attention to detail and a willingness to learn. We welcome applicants with transferable skills from farming, production or other practical backgrounds.

  • ML5 medical and industry certifications provided
  • Entry-level candidates welcome via temp-to-perm route (£14.10/hour based on 37.5 hours/week equivalent)
  • Permanent contracts available for those with relevant experience

Please note that due to the remote location of this role only candidates who are drivers with their own transport can be considered.

Pay & Benefits

  • Starting salary: £28,325 – £30,832 per annum, depending on experience
  • Overtime rates:
  • 1.5x standard rate on weekdays
  • 1.75x standard rate on weekends
  • Ongoing training and professional development
  • Long-term career progression opportunities within the aquaculture sector
  • Part subsidised accommodation available

Contract Options

Permanent Positions: Available for candidates with relevant aquaculture experience.

Temp-to-Perm Opportunities: Ideal for candidates looking to enter the aquaculture industry.

  • £14.53 per hour
