Full job description

Are you calm, nurturing and passionate about helping young people understand themselves, build confidence and prepare for adulthood? Do you want to make a lasting difference in a supportive, therapeutic setting where every day brings connection, growth and plenty of joy?

We are a small school with a big heart — an independent special secondary school for pupils aged 11–16 with a range of additional needs, including social, emotional and mental health challenges. With class sizes of no more than four pupils, we offer a warm, personalised environment where relationships are at the centre of everything we do.

We are looking for a dedicated Behaviour Support Assistant to join our team. This is primarily a 1:1 role, though you may also support across the wider school depending on pupil needs.

In this role, you will:

  • Support pupils with emotional dysregulation and behaviour needs
  • Coach and guide pupils through moments of crisis with empathy and calm
  • Help young people develop confidence, self-esteem and the skills they need for adulthood
  • Support pupils to build positive social interactions and relationships
  • Implement strategies from individual Behaviour Support Plans
  • Contribute to a safe, consistent and therapeutic school environment
  • Build trusting relationships with pupils, families and colleagues
  • Support with trips, experiences and opportunities that broaden pupils’ horizons
  • Keep clear and professional records when needed
  • Help keep our school tidy, safe and welcoming

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced in supporting young people with SEMH or SEND
  • Calm, patient and emotionally resilient
  • Trauma-informed and relationship-focused
  • A team player who brings positivity, humour and kindness to each day
  • Supportive, nurturing and firm when needed
  • Able to think on their feet and adapt to a young person’s needs in the moment

In return, we offer:

  • Small class sizes (maximum 4 pupils)
  • A therapeutic, child-centred environment where relationships come first
  • A team that genuinely works together, supports one another and celebrates the wins
  • Caring leadership that listens, values your ideas and offers supportive feedback
  • Opportunities for CPD and career development
  • Early start and finish (8 am to 3 pm), with an early finish on Fridays (12 pm)
  • A role where you will laugh, learn and have a lot of fun while making a meaningful difference every single day

We warmly welcome visitors — if you’d like to come and see our school in action before applying, we’d be delighted to show you around.

Applicants must have the existing right to work in the UK, as the school is not able to offer visa sponsorship.

If you’re looking for a role where you can help shape a young person’s future — and be part of a warm, committed team — we’d love to hear from yo
