About the Role

The Wiggett Group is seeking an experienced Access Control Supervisor to join our growing Fire & Security division, with a strong focus on Access Control and Security Systems.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising and supporting our field-based engineering teams, ensuring works are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

You will provide day-to-day technical support to engineers, assist with complex fault-finding, review completed and ongoing works, and ensure engineers have the correct information, materials and support to deliver a first-time fix wherever possible.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Access Control Engineer, Senior Security Engineer or Lead Engineer looking to take the next step into a supervisory position while remaining technically involved.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support a team of field-based Access Control and Security Engineers
  • Provide day-to-day technical guidance and assistance to engineers
  • Review engineer reports, service reports and fault findings
  • Assist engineers with complex fault-finding and technical issues
  • Review remedial and reactive works to ensure the correct solution has been identified
  • Monitor the quality and progress of works being completed by engineers
  • Ensure engineers are working efficiently and achieving high first-time fix rates
  • Carry out technical checks and quality inspections where required
  • Review photographs, job reports and technical information to ensure works have been completed correctly
  • Identify additional remedial requirements and escalate where further works are required
  • Support engineers with difficult or recurring faults
  • Liaise with Contract Managers and Operations teams regarding technical issues and outstanding works
  • Help coordinate engineer workloads and support with job allocation where required
  • Ensure engineers have the correct materials, equipment and technical information to complete their jobs
  • Work closely with suppliers to assist with identifying suitable equipment and replacement components
  • Attend sites with engineers where additional technical support or investigation is required
  • Assist with technical surveys and site inspections
  • Monitor engineer performance, workmanship and compliance
  • Provide technical feedback and coaching to engineers to support continuous improvement
  • Help identify training and development requirements within the engineering team
  • Ensure all works are completed in line with relevant legislation, manufacturer requirements and industry standards
  • Support the Contracts Team with technical queries, variations and additional works
  • Maintain accurate records of technical issues, remedial works and engineer performance
  • Ensure all company procedures, health & safety requirements and client standards are followed

Systems & Equipment

The successful candidate should have strong practical knowledge of Access Control and associated Security Systems, including:

  • Door entry and intercom systems
  • Standalone and networked access control systems
  • Magnetic locks and electric strikes
  • Keypads, proximity readers and fob systems
  • Exit buttons and door release mechanisms
  • CCTV systems and access control interfaces
  • Intruder alarm systems
  • Automatic doors and associated access control equipment
  • Networked security systems and associated infrastructure
  • Fault finding, testing and commissioning of access control equipment

Experience with systems from multiple manufacturers would be highly advantageous.

Requirements

  • Proven experience within the Access Control / Security Systems industry
  • Previous experience as an Access Control Engineer, Senior Engineer, Lead Engineer, Supervisor or similar
  • Strong practical and technical understanding of access control and security systems
  • Experience diagnosing and resolving complex system faults
  • Ability to read and understand engineer reports, photographs and technical information
  • Experience supporting or supervising field-based engineers
  • Strong understanding of installation, servicing, maintenance and remedial works
  • Excellent problem-solving and fault-finding skills
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to manage multiple engineers, jobs and priorities
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Ability to work effectively with engineers, Contract Managers, Operations and clients
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable

  • City & Guilds, NVQ or equivalent Security Systems qualification
  • Experience working within social housing or local authority contracts
  • Experience working on housing association maintenance contracts
  • Experience supervising engineers across multiple sites
  • Knowledge of relevant British Standards and industry regulations
  • Experience using CAFM or contract management systems
  • Experience carrying out quality inspections and technical audits
  • Experience with variations, additional works and remedial requirements
  • Manufacturer-specific access control training or qualifications
