About the Role

We are seeking an inspirational and resilient Maths Teacher to join our team. You will be responsible for the learning and achievement of students who have often experienced significant barriers to education in mainstream settings.

Your mission is to make Mathematics accessible, engaging, and relevant. You will design and deliver a bespoke Maths curriculum, ranging from Functional Skills and Entry Level up to GCSE Mathematics, ensuring every student achieves a meaningful qualification. You will teach small groups (typically 6-10 students) supported by skilled Engagement Mentors, utilising trauma-informed strategies to build confidence and overcome 'maths anxiety'.

Key Responsibilities

1. Curriculum Design & Delivery

• Plan, design, and deliver high-quality, differentiated Maths lessons that meet the diverse needs, ages, and aptitudes of our students, ensuring full coverage of the relevant standards.
• Adopt varied, practical, and engaging teaching strategies to effectively teach the curriculum and reignite a positive attitude towards numeracy.
• Ensure all teaching aligns with the provision outlined in students' Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

2. Assessment & Progress Tracking

• Use effective assessment techniques to establish baselines, monitor student performance, and identify specific learning gaps.
• Regularly review the effectiveness of your teaching and assessment procedures, refining your approach based on data and feedback to maximize student progress.
• Provide accurate and constructive feedback to students, parents, and external stakeholders (e.g., for Annual Reviews).

3. Trauma-Informed Classroom Management

• Create a safe, low-arousal learning environment that is highly conducive to learning and emotional regulation.
• Treat all students with unconditional positive regard, providing equal opportunities and actively working to make them feel confident and secure.
• Enforce boundaries and school routines consistently and fairly, utilizing relational and de-escalation strategies rather than punitive measures.

4. Professional Collaboration & Development

• Work collaboratively with teaching colleagues, Pastoral Leads, and the Clinical Team to build a robust professional network of support around each child.
• Take responsibility for your continuous professional development, participating fully in training opportunities (e.g., trauma-informed practice) identified by the school or through your own appraisals.

About You (Person Specification)

Qualifications & Experience:

• Essential: 1+ years of experience teaching primary and secondary-aged students.
• Desirable: A relevant degree and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS or QTLS).
• Desirable: Experience working with children and young people with SEMH, ASD, ADHD, or complex behavioural needs within a mainstream, PRU, or specialist setting.

Skills & Attributes:

• Rapport Building: Exceptional ability to build trust and professional relationships with hard-to-reach, secondary-age students.
• Adaptive Teaching: The ability to pivot a lesson instantly if a student or group becomes dysregulated.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of liaising empathetically with anxious parents and busy external professionals.
• Resilience: Emotional intelligence to bounce back from challenging days and not take dysregulated behaviour personally.

Pay: £28,000.00-£41,750.00 per day
