Senior Care Assistant Role Profile (Residential)

General Description:

This role will lead the shifts, ensuring that all staff are clear of their responsibilities and are working as a team to provide and maintain the highest professional standards of care in accordance with the Company’s care policies and procedures. This role is a working team member, delivering person centered care, ensuring that residents retain their privacy, dignity and individuality.

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensure the highest possible levels of care are maintained by supporting and assisting the care team in their work with all aspects of the residents’ Activities of Daily Living.
  • Accountability for resident Care Plans, their continuing updates and reflections and their fitness for purpose.
  • Delegation and supervision of duties to care staff including management and control of handover processes, daily notes, act as a team leader specifically around care delivery.
  • Management and monitoring of allocations and person centred care.
  • Communication with outside Agencies and Medical Practitioners.
  • Liaison with relatives/ next of kin/ resident representatives on relevant information in the resident care plan.
  • Ordering of drugs and medical supplies and the safe disposal of unwanted drugs, in accordance with accepted procedures.
  • Support training and supervision of the care team and all new care staff in all aspects of their work in the Home.
  • Assist residents with all aspects of personal care whilst maintaining their privacy and dignity at all times.
  • Assist residents in the use of their personal equipment and mobility aids when necessary, ensuring all aids are well maintained and functional.
  • Assist residents during mealtimes and serve meals and drinks as required.
  • Organize resident appointments and staff escorts to and from external venues when necessary.
  • Answer the Home Call system promptly and give assistance as required.
  • Assist in a framework of social activities by interacting with residents and helping them with hobbies, crafts, interests etc.
  • Ensure that all shifts are covered in times of staff absence.
  • Carry out regular checks and audits as determined by managers.
  • Participate in staff, resident and relative meetings.
  • Ensure a safe environment is maintained at all times within the Home, reporting any incidents, accidents, infections or hazards/ faults.
  • Undertake mandatory training and identified training in order to be able to carry out the role.
  • Attend regular supervision, appraisal meetings.
  • Assist with or attend to any other duties which are reasonable to the role.
  • Be responsible for maintaining own professional knowledge and competence as well as coaching and encouraging others.
  • Ensure the safety and security of the Home i.e. identification of visitors (sign in and out), alarms etc.
  • Be responsible for own health and safety and that of colleagues and residents alike.
  • Respect confidentiality and work in accordance with the Data Protection Act (1998).
  • Promote and ensure the good reputation of the Home and the Company at all times.
