Head of Payroll & HR Services

  • North Wales (Hybrid Working – Minimum 3 Days per Week at Head Office)

Ready to take ownership of Payroll, HR Operations and People Systems for a large multi-site organisation?

Beam Recruit are delighted to be partnering with a well-established, market-leading business to recruit a Head of Payroll & HR Services.

Supporting a large multi-site workforce across the UK, this is an exciting opportunity for an experienced operational leader to take ownership of a complex payroll function while leading HR Operations, People Systems and Data.

You'll inherit an established team and play a key role in driving continuous improvement, automation and service excellence, ensuring critical people processes are delivered efficiently, accurately and compliantly.

The Role

You will lead the Payroll & HR Services function, overseeing Payroll, HR Operations, People Systems and Data across the business.

This is a hands on operational leadership role where you'll influence how services are delivered, lead transformation initiatives and help shape the future of the People function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee a large, complex payroll function, ensuring accurate, compliant and timely delivery.
  • Drive continuous improvement across payroll and HR operations, simplifying processes and improving efficiency.
  • Lead the development and optimisation of HR and Payroll systems, automation and workflows.
  • Ensure robust governance across payroll, people data, GDPR and statutory compliance.
  • Deliver meaningful people reporting and insights to support business decision-making.
  • Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders across the organisation.
  • Support acquisitions, integrations and wider business change initiatives.
  • Manage external technology partners and suppliers, ensuring excellent service delivery.

About You

You'll be an experienced operational leader who enjoys making things better.

You understand that payroll is far more than processing salaries. It's about governance, compliance, systems, data, customer service and building a team that consistently delivers an exceptional service.

You'll probably recognise yourself if you:

  • Have significant experience leading a large payroll function within a complex, multi-site organisation.
  • Have responsibility for HR Operations, Shared Services or People Services alongside payroll.
  • Have a passion for continuous improvement and enjoy finding smarter, more efficient ways of working.
  • Have successfully led process improvement, automation or systems transformation projects.
  • Use reporting and analytics to improve operational performance and support business decisions.
  • Are an empathetic, people-focused leader who enjoys coaching, mentoring and developing others.
  • Build trust through collaboration and empower your team to perform at their best.
  • Balance operational excellence with commercial awareness.
