Are you an experienced payroll leader who enjoys improving systems, using data to drive better decisions and developing high-performing teams?

Beam Recruit are delighted to be partnering with a well-established business with ambitious plans for the future to recruit a Head of Payroll, Systems & Operations.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced payroll professional to lead a large, complex payroll function while overseeing HR Operations, People Systems and Data.

We're looking for someone who thrives on improving processes, driving automation, using insight to influence decisions and creating a culture of continuous improvement.

If you're passionate about operational excellence and developing people, we'd love to hear from you.

The Role

Reporting to the Chief People Officer, you'll lead Payroll, HR Operations, People Systems and Data across the business.

Payroll is at the heart of this role. You'll ensure the accurate, compliant delivery of payroll while leading the continuous improvement of systems, processes and reporting across the wider HR Services function.

Working closely with senior leaders, you'll help shape a more efficient, data-led and customer-focused service that supports the future growth of the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a large, complex payroll function, ensuring accurate, timely and compliant payroll delivery.
  • Develop, coach and inspire a high-performing payroll and HR operations team.
  • Drive continuous improvement across payroll, systems and operational processes.
  • Ensure the integrity of people data, governance and statutory compliance.
  • Develop meaningful reporting and analytics that support business decision-making.
  • Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders across the organisation.
  • Support organisational growth, change projects and business integrations.
  • Manage external payroll and technology partners to ensure exceptional service delivery.

About You

You'll be someone who enjoys improving the way things work.

Payroll is your area of expertise, but you also understand how systems, data and operational excellence combine to deliver an outstanding service.

You'll probably recognise yourself if you:

  • Have significant experience leading a complex payroll function within a large, multi-site organisation.
  • Have a strong understanding of payroll legislation, governance and compliance.
  • Have experience of payroll systems and enjoy improving processes through technology.
  • Have delivered automation, systems implementation or continuous improvement projects.
  • Use data and reporting to identify trends and improve operational performance.
  • Are naturally curious and always looking for smarter, more efficient ways of working.
  • Are an approachable, supportive leader who enjoys coaching and developing people.
  • Build trust through collaboration and lead by example.
  • Balance operational excellence with commercial awareness.

Backgrounds We'd Love to Hear From

You may currently be working as a:

  • £65,000-£70,000 salary plus £7,000 car allowance.
  • Hybrid working with a minimum of three days per week at the North Wales head office.
  • Opportunity to shape and modernise a key operational function.
