CONTROL ENGINEER

£43,000 – £50,000 + Excellent Technical Development Opportunities

Location: Shropshire | Ref: 25820

Are you a talented Control Engineer with strong Allen Bradley PLC programming experience and a passion for developing innovative automation solutions?

Looking for a role where you can get involved in exciting engineering projects, work with cutting-edge control technologies and continue developing your technical expertise?

This is an excellent opportunity to join a specialist engineering business delivering advanced automation and control systems to customers across the UK and internationally.

Working closely with customers and an experienced engineering team, you will play a key role in the design, development, programming, testing and commissioning of bespoke automated systems.

No two projects are quite the same, offering plenty of variety, technical challenge and opportunities to broaden your experience.

THE ROLE

As a Control Engineer, you will be involved in the full project lifecycle, from software development and system integration through to testing and commissioning.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and programming PLC software, primarily using Allen Bradley Rockwell, alongside Siemens S7/TIA Portal.
  • Designing and developing structured ladder logic, statement list and function block programmes.
  • Configuring industrial communications, including Ethernet, Modbus and Profibus.
  • Setting up and commissioning AC/DC drives and inverters.
  • Developing process control applications using PID controllers for flow, level, pressure, temperature and humidity.
  • Testing, troubleshooting and validating hardware and software systems.
  • Developing robot and PLC software for automated systems.
  • Commissioning new installations at customer sites throughout the UK and overseas.
  • Providing remote technical support, diagnostics and fault finding.
  • Delivering customer training and ensuring projects comply with company procedures and health and safety standards.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We are keen to hear from Controls Engineers who enjoy getting hands-on with technology, solving complex engineering problems and taking ownership of projects.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Proven experience in PLC programming, with Allen Bradley experience essential.
  • A background in PLC/SCADA system design and development.
  • Experience across control systems, software and hardware development.
  • Knowledge of Siemens S7/TIA Portal (advantageous).
  • Experience with Ignition systems (beneficial).
  • A degree in Electrical, Electronic or Mechatronic Engineering (BEng/MEng). Alternatively, a BTEC qualification combined with substantial relevant controls engineering experience will be considered.
  • Excellent communication skills and the confidence to work directly with customers.
  • A proactive, flexible and self-motivated approach, with a genuine interest in continued learning and technical development.
  • A full, clean driving licence and valid passport.

WHY CONSIDER THIS OPPORTUNITY?

  • Excellent opportunities for technical development and expanding your engineering skill set.
  • Involvement in varied and challenging automation and control system projects.
  • Exposure to a wide range of technologies, applications and customer environments.
  • Opportunities to work on projects across the UK and internationally.
  • The chance to work within a specialist engineering business where your technical contribution really matters.

LOCATION

Based in Shropshire, the position is commutable from Shrewsbury, Telford, Bridgnorth, Oswestry and the surrounding areas.
