Full job description

Due to business expansion we are looking for new members to join the Train Shunter Driver / Track Maintenance Team to join our Company at our 46 acre railway maintenance facility in Eastleigh.

Previous experience in Rail Operations is preferred.

We are looking for individuals that have excellent safety awareness to manage all rail movements within our yard. The role involves driving locomotives and various traction units to shunt heavy freight trains, passenger trains and other rolling stock in line with our business and customer requirements.

We are looking for individuals with excellent communication and planning skills to ensure that all movements are conducted in a safe manner whilst meeting our production and customer requirements. You will need to be physically fit, and have a good sense of humour.

About Us:

Arlington Fleet Services is based at Eastleigh Works in Hampshire on a 46-acre site which includes 14 acres of workshops. We were formed in 2004 by a group of experienced railway engineering professionals. The Company supplies many rail maintenance and refurbishment services including;

· Routine maintenance of a variety of locomotives, coaching and other stock

· Bogie overhaul

· Locomotive overhaul and maintenance

· Passenger train overhaul and refit

· Heavy repair including collision repairs, re-wiring, interior refurbishment and overhaul

· Paint shop

· On site Wheel Shop

· Bespoke project work

· Rolling stock storage

· Workshop facilities to other customers

· Train stabling and additional related storage

Tasks include

· Manage, plan and conduct all rail movements within the yard

· Daily checks on locos/traction units you will drive to ensure they are safe to use

· Ensure the Health & Safety compliance of everyone around the yard at all times

· Visual inspection of track points and infrastructure

· Receiving trains off the live network

· Manage trains leaving the yard to enter the live network

· Manage train stabling logistics

· Manage and conduct rolling stock movements on site

· Fuelling of locomotives and traction units

· Liaising with customers to ensure that they receive excellent service for all rail movements

· Liaising with production managers to ensure movements are done in a timely manner to minimise any delays to production

· Preparing trains for charters in carriage order as per our customer requirements

· Safety inspections of rail vehicles

· Completing necessary paperwork

· Any other comparable duties as and when requested, which will include being on call and out of hours working.

Essential Experience:

· Rolling Stock and railway operations experience

· Previous experience of driving locomotives and/or traction units

· Train driving experience

Requirements:

· Full UK Driving licence

· Ability to follow rules, procedures and instructions

· Excellent communication skills

· Excellent safety awareness

· Be available to cover out of hours work when required

· This role will include a number of the above task will need to be undertaken outside of normal working hours.

· This role is in a heavy engineering environment, which means at times there will be low-level bending and heavy lifting.
