Would you like to be part of an award‑winning technology company at the forefront of computer graphics, video capture, and digital display solutions?
Founded in 1982, Datapath has grown into a global leader in video processing, control, and management solutions. Today, our technology is distributed across five continents and trusted by end customers in more than 100 countries. You’ll find our solutions powering critical and high‑impact environments spanning Medical, Digital Signage, Security, Retail, Sports and many other sectors.
We’re recognised for delivering class‑leading products, backed by exceptional customer support. Our commitment to innovation and reliability has earned us a reputation for providing unbeatable service tailored to complex and specialised requirements.
As a successful and continuously expanding organisation, we operate from offices across the world, including UK, US, and Japan, supporting customers in every major global market. Joining Datapath means becoming part of a forward‑thinking company where your work contributes to cutting‑edge technology that’s used worldwide.
This is a unique opportunity for a Linux Engineer to make their mark, helping shape our systems, influence best practice, and drive the continued evolution of world-class technology. It would be ideal for someone passionate about building embedded Linux platforms that power our next-generation products.
Role Purpose & Responsibilities:
As a Datapath Linux Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in designing, building and maintaining secure, high-availability AV-over-IP hardware and virtual appliances for enterprise environments. Working across the full product lifecycle, you’ll be responsible for creating and managing system images, releases, upgrades and patching, alongside implementing robust security hardening to meet the demands of highly secure embedded systems.
Operating within a collaborative, DevOps-focused environment, you’ll contribute to the development and ongoing maintenance of build pipelines using Azure DevOps, supporting continuous delivery and system reliability. You’ll be using your infrastructure expertise to contribute to the wider infrastructure maintenance across the site, focusing on build and test servers with their associated networking and general configuration.
This role offers a broad scope with real ownership, combining hands-on engineering with strategic input. You’ll act as a key technical escalation point, working closely with Support to transfer knowledge and ensure long-term maintainability, as well as producing clear, high-quality documentation. It’s an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys solving complex infrastructure challenges, improving systems over time, and working as part of a supportive, forward-thinking team.
Skills and Experience
Our ideal candidate is a skilled and motivated Linux Engineer familiar with embedded and server environments who combines strong technical expertise with a proactive, solutions-focused mindset. Comfortable working in a small, multidisciplinary team, they’ll take ownership of their work, approach challenges with curiosity and creativity, and balance strategic thinking with hands-on delivery. They are confident in both designing robust infrastructure and ensuring it remains secure, reliable and fit for purpose over time.
Demonstrating:
- Strong end-to-end ownership of embedded Linux-based solutions, from design through to deployment and ongoing support
- A proactive approach to security, ensuring systems are hardened and resilient by design
- Broad infrastructure knowledge to manage and maintain the DevOps hardware estate
- A passion for automation, improving efficiency through monitoring, reporting and DevOps pipelines
- Confidence acting as a technical escalation point, with a collaborative approach to knowledge-sharing
- Clear and structured communication, including high-quality technical documentation
- Analytical thinking, with the ability to translate complex requirements into practical technical solutions
- Adaptability and self-motivation, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver independently
Our benefits:
- 27 days’ annual leave (plus 8 bank holidays), increasing with length of service, with the option to buy or sell additional leave
- 5% employer pension contribution
- A non-contractual, discretionary profit share bonus scheme
- Bupa Private Healthcare to support your health and wellbeing
- Life Assurance at three times your salary, providing peace of mind for you and your loved ones
- Cycle2Work scheme to promote a healthier lifestyle and greener commute
- Electric Vehicle Scheme to provide a cost-effective way to make greener travel choices
- Technology discount scheme, offering savings on a range of everyday tech
- Paid volunteer time
*Access to some benefits is subject to successful completion of probation
