Overview

Are you looking to develop your career in energy management, sustainability and energy efficiency? Do you have an understanding of Commercial and Domestic Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) and a genuine interest in helping organisations reduce energy consumption, costs and carbon emissions?

We are looking for a motivated and proactive Assistant Energy Manager / Energy Assessor to join our growing Energy Management team at PEP.

This is an excellent opportunity to train as a Commercial and Domestic Energy Assessor, building on your existing experience and developing a broader skill set within the energy management and sustainability sector.

Previous experience in energy management is desirable but not essential. We are looking for someone with a positive attitude, strong technical aptitude and a willingness to learn. You will develop your knowledge of building services, take on new challenges and contribute to practical energy and sustainability solutions for our commercial and public sector clients.

Working closely with our Energy Management and Procurement teams, you will support a varied portfolio of projects, helping clients understand their energy use, improve efficiency, reduce costs and work towards their sustainability objectives.

You will gain hands-on experience across a broad range of energy management activities, with full training, ongoing professional development and the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility as your skills and experience grow. For the right candidate, this role offers a clear pathway towards becoming an Energy Manager.

Key Responsibilities

As Assistant Energy Manager / Energy Assessor, your responsibilities will include:

  • Producing Commercial and Domestic Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) and recommendation reports, with your work assessed and lodged by our accredited team while you train
  • Conducting site surveys and working within a client's H&S policy
  • Supporting energy management projects from initial data collection through to completion
  • Gathering, reviewing and analysing energy, building and operational data
  • Supporting energy assessments and identifying opportunities to improve energy efficiency and reduce costs
  • Developing knowledge of carbon reporting, including Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions
  • Assisting with carbon footprint calculations and sustainability reporting
  • Supporting energy audits and developing the skills required to undertake these independently
  • Assisting with desktop solar assessments and other energy efficiency projects
  • Attending client meetings and site visits alongside experienced members of the team
  • Liaising professionally with clients, suppliers and other stakeholders
  • Preparing clear, accurate and professional reports and project documentation
  • Representing PEP at exhibitions, networking opportunities and industry events
  • Supporting the development of client case studies and marketing materials
  • Keeping up to date with developments in energy management, sustainability and relevant legislation
  • Taking part in ongoing training to build technical knowledge and professional expertise

As your experience develops, you will have opportunities to take on greater responsibility, manage projects more independently and progress towards an Energy Manager role.

Essential Requirements

  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to local client sites
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage workloads effectively
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team

Desirable Skills and Experience

The following would be advantageous, but are not essential:

  • Experience in commercial EPCs, engineering, energy, sustainability or building services, or equivalent relevant experience
  • Experience working with data, spreadsheets or technical reports
  • An understanding of energy efficiency, sustainability or carbon reduction
  • Previous experience working with customers or clients
  • Strong report-writing skills and excellent attention to detail

Personal Attributes

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Curious and enthusiastic: a genuine interest in energy, sustainability, engineering or the built environment, and keen to learn new technical skills
  • Practical and solutions-focused: able to approach challenges logically and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Commercially aware: interested in understanding client needs and delivering effective, cost-conscious solutions
  • Self-motivated and proactive: willing to take responsibility and use initiative
  • Career-focused: keen to develop your skills and progress within the energy management sector

What We Offer

At PEP, we want our people to develop their skills, build confidence and progress in their careers. We offer a supportive working environment where you will learn from experienced colleagues and contribute to meaningful projects.

  • Full training and ongoing professional development
  • Opportunities for career progression
  • 20 days' annual leave, plus bank holidays
  • Workplace pension (statutory)
  • Westfield Health cover after 6 months
  • Company mobile phone and laptop
  • Free on-site parking and EV charging facilities
  • Travel expenses
  • Modern, comfortable office facilities and a friendly, supportive working environment
