Full job description
Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced, highly organised and technically knowledgeable Solar PV Installation & Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day management of our solar PV installation, repair and maintenance operations.
This is a predominantly office-based role, responsible for managing installation teams, coordinating installation and remedial works, maintaining high standards of workmanship, resolving customer complaints and ensuring operational efficiency.
Previous hands-on experience installing solar PV systems is essential. The successful candidate must have a strong practical understanding of solar PV installations, associated electrical works, battery storage systems and common installation faults.
The role requires someone who can take ownership of the installation department, make confident technical decisions, manage multiple teams and ensure jobs are completed safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Installation Team Management
Manage and coordinate multiple teams of solar PV installers, electricians, roofers and subcontractors.
2. Installation Planning & Coordination
Oversee the planning and delivery of domestic and commercial solar PV installations.
3. Quality Control & Workmanship
Take overall responsibility for maintaining high installation standards.
5. Customer Complaints & Issue Resolution
Take ownership of escalated customer complaints relating to installations, repairs and system performance.
6. Health, Safety & Compliance
Ensure installation and repair activities comply with relevant health and safety legislation.
7. Operational Performance & Cost Control
Monitor installation and repair performance against company targets.
Qualifications
Highly Desirable:
City & Guilds 2399-13 – Level 3 Award in the Installation and Maintenance of Small Scale Solar Photovoltaic Systems, or equivalent recognised Solar PV qualification.
LCL Awards / BPEC Solar PV Qualification – Recognised training in the installation, commissioning and maintenance of solar photovoltaic systems.
City & Guilds 2382 – 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671), including current amendments.
City & Guilds 2391 – Inspection and Testing of Electrical Installations, or equivalent.
ECS Gold Card – Electrician or Approved Electrician, where applicable.
Equivalent qualifications and demonstrable industry experience will be considered. Not all qualifications are mandatory, particularly where the candidate's background is primarily in solar PV roofing and mounting rather than electrical installation.
Industry Knowledge
The candidate should have a good working knowledge of:
MCS installation and certification requirements.
BS 7671 – Requirements for Electrical Installations.
Relevant IET Codes of Practice for solar PV and electrical energy storage systems.
G98 and G99 DNO connection processes.
Relevant Building Regulations.
Pay: £40,000.00-£60,000.00 per year
Work Location: In person
