We are seeking an experienced, hands-on PCS Field Service Technician / Field Service Engineer to deliver and lead Power Conversion System (PCS) service work at battery energy storage sites across the United Kingdom.

Alongside hands-on technical work, you will lead activities on site: planning and coordinating the work of technicians and subcontractors, keeping work safe and on schedule, and acting as the main point of contact for customers. The role suits candidates with practical experience in power electronics, inverters, drives, UPS systems, data centres, solar PV, switchgear, controls, or electrical field service who have also led teams, site activities, or projects. Direct PCS or BESS experience is preferred but not required.

The position will initially begin on a contract basis. Candidates who demonstrate strong technical performance, leadership, safety awareness, reliability, and teamwork may be considered for a permanent position based on business needs.

Responsibilities

• Lead on-site PCS service, commissioning, and maintenance activities: plan and allocate work, coordinate technicians and subcontractors, and track progress against the schedule.
• Perform inspections, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and component replacement on PCS units (bidirectional inverters) and PCS/MV skids.
• Support the installation, pre-commissioning, and commissioning of PCS equipment, including mechanical completion checks, torque and polarity checks, insulation resistance testing, energisation, and functional testing.
• Support grid compliance and witness testing (e.g. EREC G99 and Grid Code), working alongside commissioning engineers, network operators, and customers.
• Diagnose power, control, communication, and cooling faults using multimeters, insulation testers, diagnostic software, fault logs, schematics, and single-line diagrams.
• Work with AC and DC systems up to 1,500 V DC, three-phase LV systems, and PCS interfaces to BMS, EMS, power plant controllers (PPC), and SCADA via Modbus TCP/RTU, CANbus, IEC 61850, or related protocols.
• Replace components such as IGBT/power modules, control boards, fuses, contactors, AC/DC breakers, sensors, fans, filters, cooling-system parts, and communication equipment.
• Carry out firmware updates, parameter configuration, fault-log analysis, and thermal imaging inspections.
• Follow and enforce safe isolation, LOTO, permit-to-work, PPE, and site-access procedures in line with the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, site RAMS, and HV safety rules; prepare and review RAMS for service activities.
• Act as the main on-site contact for customers, EPC contractors, and network operators, and report progress, issues, and risks to project managers and remote technical support teams.
• Mentor and support less experienced technicians, and help develop service procedures, checklists, and best practices.
• Complete and review daily field reports, test and inspection records, parts records, photographs, punch lists, and service documentation, and track defects through to close-out.
• Support additional installation, commissioning, and maintenance tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• At least three years of hands-on experience in electrical work, power electronics, industrial maintenance, field service, power systems, controls, UPS systems, data centres, solar PV, telecom power, switchgear, or a related technical field.
• Experience leading or supervising technicians, site activities, or projects (for example as a team leader, supervisor, or lead engineer).
• Valid (in-date) CCNSG Safety Passport.
• Valid (in-date) ECS card (Electrotechnical Certification Scheme) at Trainee/Apprentice level or above.
• Experience using multimeters, insulation resistance testers, hand tools, power tools, electrical drawings, schematics, or single-line diagrams.
• Sound understanding of electrical safety and safe isolation, AC/DC power, earthing, wiring, and equipment troubleshooting.
• Full UK driving licence and an acceptable driving record.
• Willing and able to travel at least 75% of the time across the UK, including multi-week project assignments and overnight stays.
• Able to work outdoors, climb stairs and ladders, and lift up to 25 kg, with or without reasonable adjustments.
• Fluent spoken and written English, with the ability to complete service reports and safety documentation and to communicate clearly with customers and project teams.
• Reliable, safety-conscious, and able to work independently and take ownership at customer sites.
• Right to work in the UK.

Pay: £50,000.00-£52,000.00 per month
