Full job description

You'll work with vulnerable young people, one at a time, on their terms - none of the teaching-at-scale trade-off, less admin, just one person and the part of teaching you care about. We're recruiting experienced SEND tutors across England, £28 - £35 per hour, for one-to-one tuition with children and young people who've fallen out of mainstream education, or never been properly served by it.

What you get

  • Flexible schedule: Part-time or full-time, around your other commitments. You set your hours and choose your placements.
  • Work from home: Planning, prep, and reporting from home; hybrid placements available alongside in-person delivery.
  • Tes CPD access: Unlimited use of the Tes professional development library, plus our own SEMH-focused CPD courses.
  • Mentoring programme: Regular check-ins and expert guidance throughout every placement.
  • Specialist team behind you: SENDCos, Designated Safeguarding Leads, senior special-school leaders, and experienced tutors backing every placement.
  • Tutor community events: Online drop-ins, knowledge-sharing sessions, and a real community of fellow tutors.

How we work

We meet each young person where they are - safeguarding wrapped around the work, engagement before attainment, child-led and matched to your approach. We match, we don't dictate. Trauma-informed tuition that's transformative, not a gap filler - trusted by Local Authorities and schools across the UK.

Day to day

  • You'll deliver one-to-one tuition in English, Maths, or Science to children and young people aged 5 to 18, referred by Local Authorities and schools.
  • Sessions are typically 1 to 2 hours, in-person; often in the home, sometimes in school or a community setting, occasionally hybrid.
  • Most of your learners will have SEMH, ADHD, ASC, MLD, SLD, or other SEND needs; many are out of school or at risk of being so.
  • You write per-session reports as part of the professional standard, supported by templates and your SEND Support Specialist.

You'll need

  • Experience: At least 2 years' teaching experience with SEMH, ADHD, ASC, MLD, SLD, or other SEND needs.
  • Qualification: QTS or QTLS, or a directly equivalent specialist teaching qualification.
  • Subjects: Confidence teaching English, Maths, or Science at one or more Key Stages.
  • Compliance: Enhanced DBS (we can help arrange this) and two professional references.
  • Right to work: UK-based with right to work in the UK.

Pay

Paid monthly via an auto-generated invoice you approve in our tutor portal. Self-employed contract for services.

Applying

Apply in under 5 minutes via our mobile-optimised form. We interview on a rolling basis and respond to successful applicants within 2 weeks. Safer recruitment applies; we welcome tutors from every background and want our network to reflect the communities our learners come from. Our referral programme rewards tutors who recommend others who complete a first lesson.

You may have worked as

SENDCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), SEND Teacher, Special Needs Teacher, Special Needs Tutor, 1:1 Tutor, Home Tutor, Alternative Provision Tutor, Reintegration Tutor, Intervention Specialist, Behaviour Mentor, ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant), LSA, TA, Educational Therapist, Speech and Language Therapist (SALT), Educational Psychologist (EP), or Inclusion Coordinator.

Not a permanent or salaried position; you are not an employee of Targeted Provision. Self-employed, freelance contract for services. Part-time or full-time by combining placements.
