ACE Grading - Sports Card Specialist

Purpose of the Role

The Sports Card Specialist is responsible for providing expert knowledge and guidance on sports cards, supporting the development of departmental capability and acting as the department's primary subject matter expert for sports-related products. The role works closely with the Head of Grading and Training & Development Manager to strengthen sports card knowledge across the department, support the consistent application of grading standards and build long-term expertise within Ace Grading.

The Sports Card Specialist provides specialist knowledge, research and recommendations relating to sports cards, authenticity concerns, product identification and grading considerations. The expertise provided by the role helps support standards discussions, training development and the ongoing evolution of sports card knowledge within the department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the department's primary subject matter expert for sports cards and sports-related products.
  • Provide specialist guidance on sports card manufacturers, products, releases, parallels, variations and market developments.
  • Support the identification of counterfeit, altered and fraudulent sports cards through research and specialist knowledge.
  • Work alongside the Head of Grading and Training & Development Manager to support knowledge sharing, educational resources and departmental capability development.
  • Provide technical support and guidance on sports-related submissions and grading considerations.
  • Support the consistent application of Ace Grading standards through evidence-based recommendations and specialist expertise.
  • Contribute to the development of internal sports card knowledge and help build long-term capability within the department.

Person SpecificationEssential

  • Extensive knowledge of sports cards and the wider sports card market.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience collecting, researching, trading or working alongside the sports card hobby.
  • Strong understanding of sports card manufacturers, products, releases, parallels, variations and market trends.
  • Strong understanding of counterfeit detection, authenticity concerns and common issues affecting sports cards.
  • Ability to research, analyse and communicate specialist information effectively.
  • Ability to educate, support and develop the knowledge of others.
  • Professional, reliable and positive approach to work.
  • Strong personal interest and engagement within the sports card hobby.

Desirable

  • 5+ years' experience collecting, researching, trading or working alongside the sports card hobby.
  • Experience creating educational resources, guidance documents or training materials.
  • Experience working within grading, authentication, collectibles or related industries.
  • Knowledge across multiple sports and sports card categories.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professionalism, continuous learning and specialist expertise.

Success Measures

Success in the role will be measured through the quality of expertise provided, the effectiveness of knowledge sharing across the department, the identification of sports-related risks and authenticity concerns, and the positive contribution made towards building sports card capability within Ace Grading. The Sports Card Specialist should help strengthen the department's understanding of sports cards, support informed decision-making and contribute to the consistent application of grading standards.

Pay: £34,500.00-£37,500.00 per year
