ALTERNATIVE PROVISION SPORTS TUTOR

Milton Keynes | Contractor Role | 32 - 40 Hours per Week

LETS KICK IT EDUCATION

www.letskickiteducation.com

Lets Kick It Education, part of LETS KICK IT GROUP LTD, provides personalised alternative provision for children and young people who may find it difficult to engage successfully within mainstream education.

We support learners with a range of special educational needs, social, emotional and mental health needs, behavioural challenges and other barriers to education. Our programmes combine education with sport, fitness, vocational qualifications and practical activities to help young people rebuild confidence, develop positive relationships and achieve meaningful outcomes.

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Sports Tutor to join our Milton Keynes provision. The successful candidate will deliver personalised one-to-one and small-group sports programmes, including accredited sports qualifications, gym sessions, football coaching and structured sports club activities.

THE ROLE

As a Sports Tutor, you will use sport and physical activity to engage young people who may have experienced disrupted education, exclusion, low confidence or difficulties within traditional learning environments.

You will plan and deliver individualised programmes based on each learner’s ability, interests, needs and intended outcomes. Sessions will primarily be delivered on a one-to-one basis, although some small-group and sports club delivery will also be required.

Programmes may include:

  • One-to-one accredited sports and fitness qualifications.
  • Individual and small-group gym sessions.
  • Football coaching and skills development.
  • Fitness, strength and conditioning activities.
  • Structured sports club sessions.
  • Employability, teamwork and personal-development activities linked to sport.
  • Opportunities to develop coaching, leadership and vocational skills.

The role requires someone who can build strong and professional relationships with young people while maintaining clear boundaries, consistent expectations and a calm approach to challenging situations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

You will:

  • Plan and deliver personalised sports programmes based on each learner’s needs, starting points, interests and agreed outcomes.
  • Deliver accredited sports, fitness, coaching and personal-development qualifications on a one-to-one basis.
  • Plan and lead safe, structured and engaging gym sessions.
  • Deliver football coaching sessions that develop technical ability, fitness, teamwork and confidence.
  • Organise and deliver sports club activities for learners within the provision.
  • Adapt sessions for learners with special educational needs, disabilities and different levels of physical ability.
  • Use sport as a tool to improve engagement, communication, emotional regulation, behaviour and readiness to learn.
  • Support learners to develop healthy routines, resilience, self-discipline and positive relationships.
  • Embed English, maths, employability and life skills within sports-based activities where appropriate.
  • Understand and implement information contained within Education, Health and Care Plans, referrals, risk assessments and individual support plans.
  • Complete appropriate risk assessments for gym, football and other physical activities.
  • Set clear learning and development targets and regularly assess learner progress.
  • Produce accurate session notes, progress reports and evidence towards accredited qualifications.
  • Maintain appropriate records of learner attendance, engagement, achievement and behaviour.
  • Work collaboratively with parents, carers, schools, local authorities and other professionals.
  • Maintain high standards of safeguarding, professional conduct, confidentiality and health and safety.
  • Follow Lets Kick It Education’s policies and procedures, including those relating to safeguarding, behaviour, equality and safe sports delivery.
  • Attend meetings, reviews, training and supervision sessions where required.
  • Contribute to the continued development of the Milton Keynes provision and its sports curriculum.

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for an experienced sports tutor, coach or fitness professional who is patient, resilient, reliable and genuinely committed to improving outcomes for young people.

You should be able to engage learners who may initially be reluctant to participate, have difficulty trusting adults or have had negative experiences of education. You will need to remain calm under pressure and respond to behaviour in a consistent, restorative and professional manner.

You should also be confident delivering structured sports sessions while ensuring that activities remain safe, purposeful and connected to each learner’s educational and personal-development outcomes.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must have:

  • Significant experience of delivering sport, fitness or physical activity sessions to children and young people.
  • Experience of working with young people with special educational needs, behavioural needs or social, emotional and mental health needs.

  • Experience of delivering football, gym, fitness or wider sports sessions.
  • The ability to plan safe, engaging and progressive sports programmes.
  • Strong relationship-building and behaviour-management skills.
  • The ability to motivate young people who may be disengaged from education or physical activity.
  • A clear understanding of safeguarding responsibilities when working with children and young people.
  • The ability to assess progress and maintain accurate written records.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to work independently while contributing to a wider team.
  • An appropriate sports coaching, fitness or physical activity qualification.
  • GCSEs, or equivalent qualifications, in English and maths.
  • The right to work in the UK.

It would be beneficial to have:

  • A recognised teaching, tutoring or assessing qualification.
  • A Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in sports coaching, fitness instruction or personal training.
  • A recognised football coaching qualification.
  • Experience of delivering accredited sports, fitness or employability qualifications.
  • Experience of working within alternative provision, specialist education, youth work or a similar setting.
  • Experience of working with learners who have Education, Health and Care Plans.
  • Knowledge of autism, ADHD and social, emotional and mental health needs.
  • Training in trauma-informed practice, positive behaviour support or de-escalation.
