About us

The Opportunity

For 20 years, Rugged Earth has worked on some of the largest sporting events in the world for the biggest broadcasters in the country. We provide virtual reality analysis operators who create analysis graphics for live sports productions, and our equipment hire department supplies broadcast equipment across the industry. We cover multiple sports, working mainly within the football and rugby arenas. Our current and recent work includes Premier League football, the FA Cup, Champions League and Europa League, the FIFA World Cup (men's and women's), international football, the Rugby World Cup (men's and women's), Six Nations and Autumn Internationals, Premiership Rugby, Rugby League Internationals and Challenge Cup, NFL, Wimbledon, the Cricket World Cup and The Ashes, and UK and Dubai horse racing. October 1st or near to it

Location

You will need to be Northern based and commutable to MediaCityUK in Salford, Manchester, where the majority of your studio work will be. There will be a few weeks of training at our Chalgrove, Oxfordshire office before you go on site. This is not a desk job. Alongside your Salford base you will travel to stadiums and studios across the UK, and overseas at times, to cater for the demands of outside broadcasts and international tournaments - so a valid passport and a full, preferably clean, driving licence held for a minimum of 1 year are required.

Remuneration

This is a full-time, permanent role with a base-level salary for the first year while training and gaining experience on the job, with overtime applicable once you exceed your allotted days per month. Plus: - Pension scheme- Health care plan- Company laptop- 28 days holiday per annum

Working Patterns

Live sport does not keep office hours - and that is part of the appeal. You will work a flexible schedule dictated by sporting events. Working hours vary and can include midnight finishes or 6am starts within a 7-day week, depending on the events covered. The Role - Virtual Reality Analysis Operator

  • Undertake full training in all aspects of the job, shadowing our established operators
  • Operate virtual reality analysis systems within sports production teams, creating and playing in analysis clips during live football and rugby coverage- Work directly with sports pundits and producers to build analysis graphics during live productions
  • Operate various virtual reality systems and EVS replay systems within live broadcasts- Travel to sports stadiums across the country and overseas - exceptional punctuality is crucial
  • Set up technical equipment and operate systems under pressure and within tight time constraints- Work a flexible schedule, including long hours and large blocks when covering tournaments
  • Work every weekend during the football and rugby seasons
  • Integrate equipment into existing broadcast infrastructures such as studio machine rooms and OB facilities

What you will bring to the company

  • Excellent football knowledge - essential; a deep understanding of the Premier League, EFL and international football
  • Rugby knowledge - advantageous, but not a requirement
  • Strong work ethic and genuine enthusiasm
  • Exceptional punctuality and reliability
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to time constraints - essential
  • Confidence working professionally with sports pundits and professionals- Ability to work long hours and in large blocks when required
  • A full driving licence held for a minimum of 1 year - preferably clean
  • A valid passport and willingness to travel abroad
  • Creative, approachable and friendly personality
  • Ability to work well independently and within a team
  • A good level of IT knowledge
  • A technical or engineering background- At least 1 year's experience in a broadcasting environment is an advantage
