Wilds Lodge School – Rutland

Monday to Friday (52 weeks) - 9.00am - 3.30pm

Every 3rd weekend - Saturday and Sunday (Split shift) 9.00am - 12.00pm / 3.00pm - 4.00pm

Salary £23,132.20

We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity to join our unique and thriving school community, working alongside exceptional young people with a range of needs, including SEMH and ASD. Through animal care and grooming activities, you will play an important role in helping learners develop confidence, responsibility, resilience, and practical skills. We are looking for an enthusiastic, compassionate, and dedicated individual who can engage and motivate young people through positive relationships and hands-on learning experiences. Job role - Animal Care/ Groom

The main responsibilities for this role will include but are not limited to:

  • Feeding and Hydration of animals: Ponies, donkeys, llamas, goats, pigs, dogs, chickens, rabbits and guinea pigs
  • Exercising of 2 ponies - Lunging and long lining
  • Hay Distribution
  • Stable cleaning and yard maintenance
  • Rug changing
  • Grooming
  • Property security
  • Emergency response and basic equine first aid
  • Independent work ability

The successful candidate will have the ability to embrace the inclusive therapeutic culture and ethos of the school.

About Wilds Lodge:

Wilds Lodge School is an independent 38 week specialist boarding and day provision for boys and girls (girls are accepted as day learners only) for learners aged between 5 and 19 with social, emotional and mental health difficulties, set in Empingham, Rutland. All the learners at the school have an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP). It was established in 2007 and aims to place an equal emphasis on the educational, social and psychological development of our learners. The key to the success of the school is a strong ethos, developed by a highly experienced and capable staff, and the strength of the relationships between the staff and the learners.

We are a friendly school where staff are supportive of each other inside and outside of the classroom. We pride ourselves in ensuring all members of staff including our support staff have access to regular training. All our members of staff attend regular training on child protection; mental health and multi-agency working. All staff access a wide range of training on areas of SEN such as Autism, attachment and ADHD.

Requirements:

● Previous experience in Equine care and Animal health awareness

● Hold a full UK driving licence with business insurance

● Experience in Stable and Yard Maintenance

● Experience with Therapeutic or Educational Environments: An understanding of working in settings where animals are used for therapy or educational purposes, demonstrating respect for the therapeutic impact of equine/animal interaction.
