About us
The Centre for Access to Justice (CAJ) at UCL Faculty of Laws aims to provide significant benefit to, and strengthen links between, the local community, UCL students and the professions. Importantly, the Centre combines the unique advantages of social justice education with the provision of pro bono legal advice to vulnerable communities. Our vision is to provide a world-leading legal education dedicated to promoting access to justice and to inspire a student body committed to addressing inequality before the law.
CAJ provides oversight and management of the CAJ Pro Bono Programme, facilitating a broad range of projects for UCL students to get involved in. These range from student-led projects to others organised with partner organisations or otherwise wholly administered and run by the CAJ.
Since January 2016, The Centre for Access to Justice has been successfully running the UCL Integrated Legal Advice Clinic (UCL iLAC), a student legal advice clinic in Stratford. Deeply embedded within the teaching and learning provision at the Faculty of Laws, the Clinic offers specialist casework services in welfare benefits, housing, education and community care law.
About the role
We are recruiting an Administrator to work closely with the CAJ Projects Coordinator and iLAC Clinic Manager, providing administrative support to ensure the smooth running of UCL iLAC and the CAJ Pro Bono Programme.
The post holder will support the Projects Coordinator in managing student recruitment, training, and maintaining accurate records for those who undertake volunteering opportunities with the Centre. They will assist with logistics for Centre events, maintenance of the Centre website and resources and other administrative tasks as required.
The role is also the first point of contact for UCL iLAC client enquiries and will support the Clinic Manager to triage new clients, arrange appointments, maintain records and ensure the clinic is compliant with data protection and retention policies.
This role is offered on a full-time, permanent basis. DBS check required.
This role does not meet the requirements for a Skilled worker visa certificate of sponsorship under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. UCL will not be able to sponsor individuals who require a right to work in the UK.
About you
The successful candidate should have experience in a customer facing and/or administrative role, and of working or volunteering in a pro bono clinic, CAB, Law Centre, or equivalent. They should possess the ability to follow key policies and procedures including confidentiality, safeguarding and data protection, and use digital and paper case management systems in a compliant manner.
As a strong team player, the Administrator will have excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, as well as the ability to work to deadlines calmly under pressure, with close attention to detail and a flexible approach to changing priorities. With a commitment to high quality service standards, the role holder will use their initiative to solve problems and take a proactive approach in providing a high-quality service for a broad range of stakeholders, including partner organisations, students and staff. They will be comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively with colleagues.
