Freelance Food Photographer & Editor - Birmingham

About Social Awaken

Social Awaken is a leading social media and content agency operating across the UK and GCC, specialising heavily in the hospitality sector.

We work with ambitious brands to create high-quality, engaging content designed for today’s social platforms.

We’re now looking for an experienced Freelance Food Photographer & Editor to work with our Birmingham-based clients and join our growing creative network.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organise and schedule photography shoots based on client briefs, requirements and deadlines.
  • Capture high-quality food, product, lifestyle and hospitality photography in line with each client’s brand guidelines.
  • Handle the pre-production requirements for shoots, including shot planning, equipment preparation and creative direction.
  • Work closely with our social media, creative and design teams to develop shoot concepts that align with each client’s wider content strategy.
  • Style food and shoot environments to ensure assets are visually engaging and on-brand.
  • Edit and retouch photography to a high professional standard and deliver assets within agreed deadlines.
  • Organise, store and manage photography assets in a clear and easily accessible format.
  • Maintain and manage your photography equipment to ensure you are fully prepared for each shoot.
  • Work independently on location while representing Social Awaken professionally in front of clients.

Skills, Experience & Requirements

  • Proven experience in professional food photography.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating food, restaurant or hospitality photography.
  • Confident and highly skilled in using professional camera equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Lightroom and Photoshop.
  • Experience editing and retouching professional photography.
  • Experience with food styling and creating visually compelling compositions.
  • Experience shooting tethered where required.
  • Access to suitable photography equipment, lighting and backdrops.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage your own workload and meet deadlines independently.
  • Comfortable working directly with clients and taking creative direction.
  • Able and willing to travel to client locations across Birmingham and surrounding areas.

The Opportunity

This is a freelance position with the opportunity for regular ongoing work across Social Awaken’s portfolio of hospitality clients.

You’ll have the chance to work with exciting food and hospitality brands while becoming part of a fast-moving creative agency producing content at scale across the UK and GCC.
