Full job description

Job Title: Maths and/or English Tutor (Primary & Secondary)

Location: Lewisham (face-to-face, community-based)

Pay: £25–£30 per hour

Contract: Contracted - full-time or part-time

Payment: Monthly

About the Role

We are looking for kind, caring, and compassionate Maths and/or English Tutors to support primary and secondary-aged children who are educated outside of mainstream school.

You will work one-to-one, delivering fun, engaging, and personalised lessons to children who may be:

  • Educated under Section 19
  • Experiencing medical or mental health needs
  • Children in care
  • On a pathway toward reintegration into school

Tuition will take place face-to-face in a range of settings including:

  • The child’s home
  • Schools or hospital schools
  • Community locations (libraries, cafés, parks)

This role involves close collaboration with local authorities, hospital schools, and virtual schools.

Who We Are Looking For

We welcome applications from individuals who:

  • Have experience working with children or young people
  • Can confidently deliver Maths and/or English
  • Are able to create engaging, motivating, and supportive lessons
  • Bring a positive, nurturing, and calm presence, particularly when supporting children with physical or mental health needs

Ideal backgrounds include:

  • Previous tutors
  • Learning Support Assistants (LSAs)
  • Teaching Assistants (TAs)
  • HLTAs
  • Qualified Teachers

Essential Requirements

  • Enhanced DBS check on the Update Service
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Ability to travel around the Lewisham area
  • Strong organisation and record-keeping skills, including:
  • Session reports for each child
  • Attendance records
  • Logging your own timesheets
  • A genuine commitment to safeguarding, wellbeing, and relationship-based practice
