Make a real difference
At Get Further, we’re changing that. We’re looking for passionate and reliable tutors to support students in further education to pass their GCSEs or Functional Skills qualifications helping unlock opportunities in work, apprenticeships, and university.
One in three students leave school without GCSE English and maths. In the 2023/24 academic year, just 57.6% of students achieved a standard pass in their English Language GCSE, and 55.5% in maths. For young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, the GCSE standard pass rate for learners eligible for free school meals in Wales is 39.7%, compared with a 67.4% overall GCSE pass rate for their peers.
The role
- Deliver small-group tuition (1–3 students) in English or Maths
- Use our ready-made curriculum and resources
- Support students to build confidence, skills, and exam readiness
- Track attendance and progress
- You’ll teach on-campus at partner colleges or training providers, during college hours (weekdays 9-5pm).
Key details
- Location: Various across England (e.g. London, Birmingham, Manchester, Wales)
- Hours: 2–15 per week, same recurring time each week
- Start: Mandatory 2-day training in July/Aug 2026, tutoring from October
- Duration: GCSE: until June 2027; Functional Skills: 6-month programmes with start date vary throughout the year, location dependant.
What we’re looking for
- Passion for tackling educational inequality
- Strong English or maths knowledge (GCSE + A-level or equivalent)
- Currently studying or completed a degree (2:2 or above)
- Confident communicator who can engage students
- Reliable, resilient, organised, and committed
- Able to commit to sessions the same day each week
- Experience teaching or tutoring is helpful but not essential.

Requirements
- Right to work in the UK
- If lived in the overseas in the past years for 3+ months, Overseas Police Check required
- Attend 2 full days of mandatory training
- Willing to complete DBS and safeguarding checks (Enhanced DBS on Update Service beneficial)
- Must be able to travel to your placement (or teach online if required)
