We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Substance Misuse Nurse to join our team at HMP Altcourse, a category B prison located in the Fazakerley area of Liverpool.

HMP Altcourse is the busiest remand prison in the country, so there's lots going on in this exciting, varied role, where you will gain valuable experience, and no 2 days are ever the same!

We are looking for a registered nurse in adult or mental health who has experience in substance misuse, you will be a part of a team of 9.

Hours

  • Monday - Sunday service
  • 37.5 hours per week
  • Various shift patters - 7am - 8pm / 8am - 9pm / 9am - 10pm
  • Nights 7.45pm-7.15am
  • 1 weekend in 3
  • 2 month rota
Salary

This position is full time, you’ll receive an annual salary up to £43,609 - £49,175 per annum - depending on experience.

Candidates are required to have a Legal right to work in the UK and due to the nature of the role, offers of employment will be subject to additional vetting and security checks.

What you'll be doing

As a Senior Substance Misuse Nurse, your responsibilities will vary. You will

  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, prioritising patient care to develop individualised packages of care through comprehensive assessment and recovery planning
  • Deliver a range of treatment options including clinical and psychosocial interventions in both a group and 1-1 setting with recovery at the centre of our healthcare wellbeing model
  • Be able to carry out comprehensive assessments, initiate and review individual recovery plans and confidently communicate the full range of treatment options available to service users.
  • Monitor therapeutic responses to medication and potential side effects and liaise with prescribers. You will work with individuals, on a 1-1 basis, providing advice and information
  • Support in group work delivery and liaise with prescribers and Recovery Practitioners on clinical interventions. You will occasionally be required to support dispensing
  • Have an understanding and commitment to recovery and a person centred approach.

  • Registered nurse with current NMC Adult / Mental Health
  • Evidence of Continued Professional Development (CPD).
  • RCGP 1 in Substance Misuse or willingness to undertake.
  • Experience of working with opiate dependant patients.
  • Sound clinical substance misuse knowledge.
  • A non-judgmental and compassionate approach.

Although not essential ideal applicants would have experience in a hospital, community or prison environment.
