About Nortam

Nortam Finishing Ltd provides specialist paint finishing and surface treatment services to Commercial, Aerospace and Defence customers.

We are looking for an experienced Production Supervisor to take responsibility for the day-to-day management of our production team and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.

The role reports directly to the Operations Manager and will involve managing and motivating around 10-15 production staff.

The Role

This is a hands-on people management role. You will be responsible for keeping the team organised, productive and on track, while ensuring production priorities and deadlines are met.

Key Responsibilities

People Management

• Manage, motivate and support a team of 10-15 production staff.
• Allocate work and monitor individual and team performance.
• Manage attendance, punctuality and day-to-day employee issues.
• Keep training and competency records up to date.
• Support new starter inductions and ongoing training.
• Set clear expectations and address performance or conduct issues where required.
• Provide regular feedback and escalate issues to the Operations Manager.

Production

• Organise daily production in line with priorities set by the Operations Manager.
• Monitor workflow, deadlines and output, identifying and addressing delays.
• Ensure production systems and records are kept up to date.
• Communicate production progress, staffing issues and any problems to the Operations Manager.
• Ensure materials, equipment and resources are available when required.

Quality & Standards

• Ensure work is completed to customer requirements and company procedures.
• Monitor finished work and address quality issues promptly.
• Work with the Quality team on non-conformances and corrective actions.
• Ensure staff follow required processes and standards.
• Ensure staff fill out necessary paperwork correctly before next stage commences.

Housekeeping & Safety

• Maintain high standards of housekeeping throughout the production area and ensure staff are completing regularly.
• Ensure staff follow company Health & Safety procedures and wear the required PPE.

Essential Experience

• Proven experience supervising or managing a team within a manufacturing or production environment.
• A strong track record of managing, motivating and keeping a team on track.
• Experience managing attendance, performance and day-to-day employee issues.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Good organisation and time management.
• Ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines.
• Confident using computers and production systems.
• Comfortable taking responsibility and addressing problems rather than allowing them to continue.

Desirable

• Experience within aerospace, engineering or manufacturing.
• Knowledge of paint finishing or surface treatment.
• Experience with training and competency records.
• Health & Safety experience.
• Microsoft Office or production management system experience.

We are looking for someone who is confident, organised and hands-on, with the experience and personality to manage a busy production team.

You should be approachable and supportive, but also comfortable setting expectations, holding people accountable and dealing with issues when they arise.

Paint finishing experience is not essential, but proven experience managing and motivating a production team is.
