SEND Teaching Assistant

Location: Tameside, OL6

Salary: £465 - £525 per week


Full-time, term-time only

September 2026

Long-term role with Temp to Perm contract after 12 weeks

About the Role

We are seeking a committed SEND Teaching Assistants to join a warm and inclusive SEND primary and secondary schools across the Tameside area. As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils with additional needs across KS1 or KS2, helping them to access learning, build confidence and develop key life, social and academic skills within a nurturing environment. This role is for individuals who are only interested in 5 days a week.

SEN Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Supporting pupils with SEND through 1:1 sessions, small groups and in-class support.
  • Using strategies recommended in EHCPs or support plans to meet individual needs.
  • Assisting with differentiated learning activities, sensory or therapeutic tasks.
  • Encouraging emotional regulation, communication and positive behaviour.
  • Supporting teachers with planning and adapting resources for SEND learners.
  • Ensuring safeguarding, confidentiality and school policies are followed at all times.

What We’re Looking For

Must-have:

  • Level 2 or above SEND desirable not essential (or equivalent).
  • Experience supporting children with SEND in a school or care setting.
  • Strong communication, patience, empathy and behaviour-support skills.
  • Understanding of safeguarding, child protection and confidentiality.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience working across Various Key stages
  • Knowledge of Autism, ADHD, speech/communication needs or social/emotional needs.
  • Training in Team Teach / MAPA / positive handling (or willingness to train).
