Full Time Secondary Teaching Assistant – Learning Resource Base

Location – Ebbw Vale

Pay rate – £100 per day

Duration – Long-term (Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm, school term time)

Start date – September 2026

PE Direct are working with a secondary school in Ebbw Vale to recruit a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to work full time within the school's specialist Learning Resource Base (LRB).

The LRB is designated for pupils with Social Communication and Autism Spectrum conditions, alongside associated additional learning needs. Pupils have severe and complex communication and interaction difficulties that can significantly impact the development of social relationships and their engagement with learning.

We are looking for a calm, patient, and resilient individual who can be a positive role model for young people. You will build trusting relationships with pupils, providing encouragement, consistency, and reassurance while supporting them to develop confidence, independence, communication skills, and positive social interactions.

The role of Teaching Assistant:

  • Supporting pupils within the specialist Learning Resource Base to access learning and achieve their individual targets.
  • Providing one-to-one and small group support tailored to each pupil's needs.
  • Promoting communication, social interaction, emotional regulation, and independence.
  • Using positive behaviour support strategies to help pupils feel safe, engaged, and ready to learn.
  • Encouraging pupils to build confidence, celebrate their achievements, and develop positive relationships with others.
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, the ALN team, and external professionals to deliver high-quality support.
  • Acting as a consistent, reliable, and positive role model throughout the school day.

We are looking for:

This role would suit candidates with experience in education, youth work, care, support work, residential care, coaching, sport, or other roles supporting children and young people.

  • Referenceable experience working with children or young people within the last three years.
  • Experience supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), social communication needs, or additional learning needs is highly desirable.
  • A calm, nurturing, and empathetic approach.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Confidence in supporting pupils with complex communication and interaction needs.
  • The ability to remain patient, adaptable, and positive in a dynamic school environment.
  • A genuine passion for helping young people achieve their potential while acting as an outstanding role model.
