Full Time Teaching Assistant job, Blaenau Gwent – SEMH

Location – Blaenau Gwent

Pay rate - £100 per day

Duration - Long-term (Monday – Friday 8:30am – 3:30pm - school term time)

Start date – September 2026

PE Direct are working with school that caters for children aged between 3 and 16 years old with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH). We are recruiting a Teaching Assistant to work within a school that celebrates inclusion and provides a positive learning experience for all pupils.

The right person for this job will be calm, supportive, and nurturing. You will be able to develop a rapport with the pupils, as someone that they can look to for support and advice. You will ensure that they feel safe, secure, and confident in asking for help and channelling their emotions effectively.

The role of Teaching Assistant:

• Working within the unit to support pupils who have social, emotional, and behavioural difficulties.
• Supporting pupils in enhancing self-esteem and social interaction skills.
• Encouraging pupils to take pride in their achievements and celebrate them.
• Supporting pupils to management their behaviour, emotions, and frustration.
• Working closely as part of a team with other members of teaching staff.

We are looking for:

This job would be ideal for those with a background in youth/community work, fostering, support worker, or something of a similar nature.

• Referenceable experience of working with pupils in a similar environment and of a similar age (in the last 3 years)
• Experience/understanding of supporting pupils with SEMH/additional learning needs
• Strong behaviour management skills and communication skills
