Job details
Full job description
Rochester Independent College is seeking a skilled and proactive team member to be part of the site team as a Health & Safety Assistant. You will play a vital role in doing the regular Health & Safety compliance checks - for example Legionella water checks and fire door checks, as well as assisting the site team with the day-to-day upkeep of our college buildings and grounds. These duties include routine repairs and decorating to supporting larger projects, your work will directly impact the learning environment of our students.
Beyond the checks and technical repairs, you will play a key role in the security and functionality of the college. Whether it’s moving furniture to prepare for an event, managing deliveries or identifying future repair needs, your efforts will ensure that our site remains a safe and inspiring place for everyone.
We are looking for a practical, multi-skilled individual. We value a "can-do" attitude and while you will often work as part of a friendly team, you should be equally comfortable working independently to see a task through to completion. Because our college campus is a dynamic place, we look for colleagues who are flexible with their time and understand that, on occasion, work may be required outside of standard hours to keep the site operational.
If you also happen to have basic skills in carpentry, plumbing, or electrical work (such as safely changing a socket), you will find plenty of opportunities to put those talents to good use.
Ideally you will hold an IOSH Managing Safely certificate, however this is not essential as training can be given.
Founded in 1984, Rochester Independent College in Kent is a day and boarding school offering a distinctive alternative to both traditional independent education and the highly selective grammar schools. RIC aims to give students an enjoyable and successful experience of schools in an international, creative and inclusive environment with small classes and high-quality teaching and pastoral care.
Rochester Independent College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitations of Offenders Act 1974 and the amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975, 2013 and 2020
