Salary range: £35k-£40k per annum

Work location: Hybrid, 3 days in Guildford (GU1 4UG)

Role: 6 month fixed-term contract, full-time (part-time considered) - potential for extension or for the role to lead to a permanent position

Due to continued market penetration and the need for continuous innovation, we are looking to hire a Technical Author. This new role will work within our Engineering team and will play a key role as we build out the capabilities of our market-leading software.

As Technical Author, you will have overall responsibility for creating and maintaining high-quality documentation for our cloud communications product. You will need to be a highly-skilled communicator, able to translate complex technical concepts into clear, user-friendly documentation. You will be be proactive, adaptable, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, agile environment.

You will be responsible for the following:

  • Owning the end-to-end documentation lifecycle for UCaas and VoIP products.
  • Translating complex technical concepts into clear and concise documentation – for example, in areas such as SIP signalling, call routing, media handling and API behaviour.
  • Creating and maintaining a range of documentation including:
  • Architectural documentation
  • API reference documentation
  • Integration documentation
  • Configuration and deployment guides
  • Network and infrastructure documents.
  • Collaborating with the Engineering, Product, QA and Support teams to gather and validate technical information.
  • Writing for a range of audiences, including developers, devops, end-users and auditors.
  • Maintaining internal documentation standards and contributing to the improvements of our documentation toolchain and style guides.

Key skills and experience include:

  • Experience as a Technical Author in the technology or telecom sectors, ideally with a background in VoIP and United Communication as a Service (UCaas)..
  • Confident and clear communicator, with exceptional written and verbal communication skills and a strong attention to detail.
  • Solid understanding of VoIP protocols (SIP, RTP, SRTP), telephony systems and UCaaS platforms.
  • Proven ability to create technical content for APIs, CLIs and cloud-based communication systems,
  • Familiarity with tools like Swagger, Git, Java documents, Confluence and ClickUp.
  • Experience working in Agile software development environments.
