Full job description

Job Summary
You will be responsible to manage, scale and maintain the growth of Network infrastructure and support customer escalations from the service desk.

This is a hands-on role where you’ll lead and take part in projects.

You should have at least 3 years’ experience in a similar capacity within an ISP environment.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain network infrastructure resilience and reliability
  • Suggest improvements to network performance (capacity, scalability and resilience)
  • Provide technical input into projects and able to lead
  • Review and improve B2B technical solutions, such as multi-tenanted customers.
  • Work with Customer Support Team Lead with technical handover guides for new/existing products
  • Able to assist the Customer Service Team (CST) with incident investigation where applicable
  • Resolve issues escalated from CST.
  • Ensure all change activity on the Core Infrastructure platforms adheres to internal Change Management policies
  • Perform technical assessments, testing, and proof of concept to validate new designs
  • Willing to travel for remote network deployments/maintenance when required. (MDU & Cabinet sites)
  • Contribute to improvement of processes within the department
  • Build successful relationships with other teams across the business
  • Work up and down the organisation and influence others to achieve desired results
  • Automate tasks and monitor their effectiveness

Essential skills

  • Experience of carrier grade network infrastructure
  • Expert knowledge and experience with network technologies (routing/switching/security) – IPv4, 802.1Q/QinQ, dynamic routing protocol.
  • Experience working in a multi-vendor environment (Cisco/Nokia/Mikrotik)
  • Experience with Security equipment (NGFW).
  • Exposure to Cloud platforms (SaaS, IaaS)

Desirable skills

  • Fortinet NSE certified
  • Understanding of emerging network technologies including SDN, SD-WAN and automation technologies
  • Understanding of ISP systems stack – RADIUS, SMTP, DNS.
  • Openreach FCP, EBD and Cablelink
  • Working with -48VDC Telco Power Systems
  • XGS-GPON, GPON exposure, any vendor.
  • Good operational knowledge of Linux OS
  • SNMP application experience e.g. PRTG, Nagios, Solarwinds, Observium, Cacti
  • WiFi experience

Role specifics

  • Core hours of Mon-Fri 0900 – 1730
  • On occasion to support out of hours project deployments
  • Be part of an on-call rota for critical core outage.
  • Provide onsite support for critical incidents and network maintenance (Newcastle, Liverpool, York)

Pay: £34,000.00-£42,000.00 per year
