Company Overview

MJ Quinn is an Integrated Services provider with a rapidly expanding telecoms division. We have achieved this by focusing on the delivery of managed solutions in a quality and safe manner. The company ethos of achieving customer satisfaction has seen MJ Quinn increase its workforce to over 1500 telecoms engineers.

Role Overview

The main function of the Heavy Cable Recovery Engineer is to recovery surplus legacy copper cables from the underground network.

This is a physically demanding role which includes carrying out onsite risk assessments, working underground in manholes, using heavy machinery including cable winches and travelling to and from various location working outdoors, in all weathers.

MJ Quinn will be recruiting agency workers in the following areas:

Key Requirements

To be considered part of our agency team you must possess the following:

  • A clean Basic DBS check (formally CRB).
  • Experience working in the underground telecommunications network.
  • Knowledge of cable identification
  • Accreditation to, or willingness to train on Openreach SA002, K010 and MT003
  • NRSWA O1 signing, lighting and guarding.
  • Full UK driving license held for a minimum of 12 months.
  • High motivation with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work alone using your own initiative.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Be computer literate with the ability to operate a handheld device and outlook.
  • An essential requirement is a category C and E driving licence, held for 12 months of more. MJ Quinn can support on the upgrade of licence where required.

Within this role you will

  • Work in a team of 2 or 3.
  • Attend meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work closely with the Project Manager to ensure delivery & compliance across all aspects of the contract.
  • Set site up following Street works code of practice. Using barriers around winch and vehicle creating a safe zone from members of the public
  • Recover cables from the underground duct network, cut, identify, document, and dispose at approved sites.
  • Send updates to and communicate effectively with the back-office team
  • Be paid on a synthetic basis
  • Not be a PAYE employee – this role is a agency worker contract position, not PAYE.

You must also be:

  • Able to work night shift as this is an essential requirement of the role.
  • Able and confident to pull a 10 tonne winch.
  • Willing to travel to and from various job locations within your working area.
  • Prepared to work away from home to meet operational requirements if needed.
  • Prepared to work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Work underground and in confined spaces within the underground network
  • Work at the side of the road, highways and public footpaths
  • Flexible about working hours;
  • If required, be prepared to work weekends (normally Saturdays if needed).
  • Once fully competent, work alone, unsupervised.
  • Customer focused, polite and well-presented.

Training

Full training will be provided by MJ Quinn at our state-of-the-art Training Academy. You will have the opportunity to be trained up by our lead Openreach Assessors in our MJ Quinn Training Academy based in Liverpool. This will enable you to gain full accreditations to begin your journey within the industry to carry out simple provision work on the Openreach Network for a national contract. Training will last between 2-3 weeks depending on the individual.

MJ Quinn will provide you with full Openreach training, van, tooling, kit, PPE etc.
