Bar Manager

Opportunity for a Bar Manager with experience of running a busy bar.

The Horse & Groom is an award-winning pub restaurant with ten bedrooms, set in the village of East Ashling at the foot of the South Downs National Park. With 2 AA Rosettes, an extensive wine list, and a strong events programme, we are known for warm, professional service and a relaxed but well-run operation.

We are seeking an experienced Bar and Cellar Manager to lead day-to-day bar operations and play a highly visible role on the floor. This position will suit someone who is excellent at welcoming guests, confident in service, and enjoys being at the heart of a busy pub environment. Cellar Management experience is essential.

This is a hands-on management role. You will run the bar and cellar, manage stock and margins, support events, oversee guest check-ins, and lead and motivate the bar team. You will be comfortable delivering polished service, setting standards, and taking responsibility in the absence of the General Manager.

  • Strong front of house presence and a genuine enjoyment of serving and engaging with guests
  • Good wine knowledge and interest in food and drink
  • Confident team leadership and sound organisational skills
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and bank holidays

Package

  • Salary £32,000–£34,000 per annum, depending on experience
  • Share of gratuities. Tronc typically in excess of £500 per month
  • Workplace pension
  • Staff meals and training opportunities

If you are passionate about hospitality, take pride in service, and are looking for a live-in management role in a well-regarded pub, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please send your CV and a short covering letter outlining your experience and interest.
