About The Blue Bell

Residing in the heart of the picturesque Cheshire village of Smallwood, The Blue Bell is a quintessential country pub. Following a extensive six-month refurbishment, the pub seamlessly blends classic rustic charm—exposed beams, cozy nooks, and a picturesque beer garden—with revitalized, modern interiors.

Our menus celebrate fresh, locally sourced Cheshire produce, alongside carefully kept real ales, fine wines, and warm hospitality.

About Pear Hospitality Group

The Blue Bell is proudly part of Pear Hospitality Group, an independent, family-operated business based in Cheshire. Led by family CEO Andrew Pear and Managing Director Jake Pear, the group has built an outstanding reputation across the North West for hospitality excellence.

Our portfolio includes some of the region's most celebrated venues:

  • Pecks Restaurant (Congleton) – Legendary fine dining holding an AA Rosette.
  • The Wheatsheaf (Sandbach) – A 5-Star AA Gold Award hotel and gastropub.
  • The Lion & Swan (Congleton) – A 16th-century coaching inn restored into a luxury venue with an AA Rosette.
  • Radley & Co. – A vibrant live music venue and late-night lounge.

At Pear Hospitality, we believe in investing in our people, maintaining high standards, and giving our managers the autonomy to run their venues like their own while backed by a supportive central team.

The Role

As General Manager, you will be the face of The Blue Bell and the driving force behind its day-to-day operations. You will lead a dedicated front-of-house and kitchen team, ensuring every guest experiences genuine warmth, exceptional service, and top-tier food and drink.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership: Recruit, train, and mentor a passionate team, fostering a positive workplace culture.
  • Operational Excellence: Maintain immaculate venue standards, manage wage margins, control stock, and deliver on financial targets (P&L responsibility).
  • Guest Experience: Lead from the floor, building strong relationships with local regulars and first-time visitors alike.
  • Events & Community Engagement: Drive village events, seasonal promotions (from summer garden offerings to festive menus), and local marketing initiatives.
  • Standards & Compliance: Ensure total compliance with food safety, health & safety, and licensing regulations.

Who We Are Looking For

  • Proven Experience: At least 2–3 years as a General Manager or strong Deputy Manager in a quality-driven gastropub or premium hospitality setting.
  • Passion for Quality: A genuine love for fresh seasonal food, fine wines, real ales, and memorable hospitality.
  • Commercial Acumen: Strong financial literacy with experience managing GP margins, labour budgets, and operational performance.
  • Inspiring Leader: Someone who leads by example on the floor, keeping the team motivated during busy services.
  • Local Connection: Someone who understands the charm of a village pub and knows how to make it a thriving hub for the community.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience, plus an achievable bonus scheme.
  • 50% off food for up to 6 people across all Pear Hospitality Group venues.
  • Clear career development and progression opportunities within a growing group.
  • Direct support from an experienced, family-run leadership team.
