Speciality coffee shop in Shrewsbury

We are looking for a full time, reliable and experienced Senior Barista to work in our small flagship speciality coffee shop in Shrewsbury.

You will be serving customers via the window hatch and counter with high end coffees, drinks and freshly prepped food, representing the respected Iron & Fire brand.

This is a long term role for someone who is hands-on on the barista station, confident working independently, and also able to support the Coffee Shop Manager with day to day operations to help the cafe run smoothly and efficiently.

The right person will have barista experience with a track record in preparing high quality drinks and food to an excellent standard, and experience working in a fast and efficient manner in a busy environment.

You must demonstrate excellent FOH customer service skills and a strong work ethic and conscientious approach as a key member of our small team.

You must have proven experience and will be responsible for overseeing the day to day running of the coffee shop whilst on shift, collaborating with the coffee roastery team and the Coffee Shop Manager.

The position is approx 30-35 hours, with some early starts (shifts sitting between 6am–5.30pm) including weekend shifts, so flexibility and excellent time keeping is a must.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Efficient running of the coffee shop when on shift (when lone working)
  • Maintaining the very highest standards of the cafe and the Iron & Fire brand
  • Delivering excellent customer service via the window hatch and counter
  • Making coffee to a high standard (training given but experience required)
  • Food prep and food prep management (fresh prep, display, quality and pace)
  • Managing food safety and H&S of the site to the highest standards
  • Stock control (ordering support, deliveries, rotation, reducing waste)
  • Opening and closing of the site (checks, cashing up/card reconciliation as required)
  • Administration and reporting (basic daily/weekly tasks to support the manager)
  • Supporting improvements and efficiencies (simple systems, checklists, standards and workflow)
  • Working closely with the wider Iron & Fire team, collaborating with the roastery-based team as needed

EXPERIENCE / SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Barista experience in a busy hospitality setting (espresso-based)
  • Strong customer service and FOH confidence
  • Ability to work quickly and calmly during commuter rush periods
  • Excellent cleanliness standards and food safety awareness
  • Reliable, punctual, and comfortable taking ownership of a shift
  • Experience supporting day to day operations (standards, stock, admin or shift-leading)
  • Confident using EPOS systems (SumUp or similar)

DESIRABLE:

  • Supervisor / team lead / assistant manager experience
  • Food design and prep skills beyond basic assembly
  • Experience implementing small improvements (waste reduction, speed of service, consistency)
  • Food hygiene certification (or willingness to complete)
  • Social Media skills always a plus!
