New Directions are seeking a caring and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in South Manchester. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who is passionate about supporting children in their learning and development and helping them to achieve their full potential.

This is a full-time role starting in September 2026 and will continue on an ongoing basis. The school is open to candidates who have experience working with children in a variety of settings, meaning previous school-based experience is not essential. Experience gained through childcare, youth work, sports coaching, tutoring, holiday clubs, residential care or similar environments will be considered.

The Role
  • Support pupils across the primary age range within the classroom and during small group activities
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and inclusive learning experiences
  • Encourage pupils’ academic, social and emotional development
  • Help to create a positive, nurturing and stimulating learning environment
  • Support pupils with varying abilities to access learning and reach their potential
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff and other professionals to support pupil progress
The Candidate
  • Experience working with children is essential, whether within a school or another child-focused setting
  • A genuine passion for supporting children and helping them succeed
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • A positive, patient and proactive approach
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
  • Teaching Assistant qualifications are desirable but not essential
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
