General Manager – Discovery Planet (Owned by Burger King UK)

Discovery Planet | Surrey Quays Shopping Centre

At Burger King UK, we know great leaders create great experiences. That's why we're looking for a General Manager to lead Discovery Planet, our indoor soft play centre in Surrey Quays.

Discovery Planet has been part of the local community for over 20 years, providing a safe, fun and affordable place for families to spend time together. While the venue operates as Discovery Planet, it's proudly owned by Burger King UK, giving you the opportunity to join one of the UK's best-loved hospitality brands in a unique management role.

This is a genuine hands-on leadership position. You'll be out on the floor leading your team, supporting customers, making sure children have a brilliant experience and ensuring the venue runs safely and efficiently every day. If you're happiest leading from the front rather than sitting behind a desk, we'd love to hear from you.

What you'll be doing

You'll take full responsibility for the day-to-day running of the venue, creating a safe, welcoming environment for families while delivering a great customer experience.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the day-to-day operation of the venue, including opening and closing each day.
  • Managing the team on shift, coaching and supporting them to deliver excellent customer service.
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, presentation and safety across the play areas.
  • Carrying out equipment checks and ensuring all health, safety and safeguarding procedures are followed.
  • Managing stock, ordering supplies and overseeing daily cash handling and till reconciliation.
  • Recruiting, training and developing a small team while creating weekly rotas around trading hours and party bookings.
  • Handling customer enquiries, party bookings and resolving any issues professionally and positively.
  • Building relationships with local families and helping to grow repeat visits and party bookings.
  • Looking for ways to improve the customer experience and overall performance of the venue.

What we're looking for

We're open to people from a range of backgrounds. You might currently be managing a soft play centre, leisure venue, restaurant, retail store or another customer-focused business.

What matters most is that you know how to lead a team, deliver brilliant service and keep standards high.

You'll have:

  • Previous management experience within hospitality, leisure, retail, soft play or a similar customer-facing environment.
  • A hands-on leadership style and the confidence to lead by example.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to balance people, operations and customer service.
  • A calm, friendly and approachable manner with both children and parents.
  • A good understanding of health and safety and a safety-first mindset.
  • Flexibility to work weekdays, weekends and school holidays on a rota basis.
  • A First Aid qualification, or willingness to obtain one.
  • A DBS check or be willing to complete one.

What you'll get in return

At Burger King UK, we're committed to helping our people grow and succeed. In return, you'll receive:

  • Annual bonus paid twice a year. Based on operating profit, personal performance and business measurables
  • Clear progression opportunities – grow your career with us, not just your CV
  • WHOPPERCON! - invite to our annual Burger King conference including awards, overnight stay, dinner and dancing!
  • 28 days holiday (including bank holidays)
  • Hundreds of retail discounts from brands you want to use
  • 70% off food and drink for you and up to five of your friends and family
  • £1,000 referral bonus when your friends join us in management
  • Stream – access your pay when you need it, not just on payday
  • 10% off a national gym chain
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • One paid volunteering day each year
  • Free mortgage advice
  • Employee Assistance Programme – confidential support whenever you need it
  • Pension scheme to help build your future

If you're looking for a management role where you can really make a difference, lead a close-knit team and be part of a business that brings joy to local families every day, we'd love to hear from you.

Apply today to become the General Manager of Discovery Planet, owned and supported by Burger King UK.
