Residential Support Worker – Day Shifts
Greenview House | Seva Childcare Ltd
North Finchley, London N12

About the role

We are looking for a caring, reliable and proactive Residential Support Worker to join our day team at Greenview House, a residential children’s home supporting children with additional and complex needs.

Our children need adults who are patient, consistent and attentive—people who take time to understand their communication, recognise their individual needs and help them feel safe and valued. You will provide practical care and emotional support while helping children develop independence, enjoy activities and make progress in their everyday lives.

This is a hands-on role requiring active involvement in children’s daily routines, personal care, education and community activities.

Your responsibilities

  • Keep children’s safety and welfare at the centre of your work, recognising and reporting safeguarding concerns promptly.
  • Build positive, professional relationships with children and respond sensitively to their emotional, developmental and communication needs.
  • Support daily routines, including getting ready for school, meals, personal hygiene, toileting and personal care, while maintaining privacy and dignity.
  • Follow each child’s care plans, risk assessments and behaviour support strategies consistently.
  • Respond calmly to distress and behaviours that challenge, using agreed de-escalation approaches.
  • Support school journeys, appointments, family contact and community outings as required.
  • Plan and take part in meaningful play, activities and key-working sessions that reflect children’s interests and abilities.
  • Support children’s health needs, including medication duties once appropriately trained and assessed as competent.
  • Complete accurate, timely daily records, incident reports and handovers.
  • Work closely with colleagues, families, schools and other professionals.
  • Help maintain a clean, safe and welcoming home, including cooking, laundry and household tasks.
  • Attend required training, supervision and team meetings, and put learning into practice.

What we are looking for

  • A genuine commitment to supporting children with additional needs.
  • Experience in residential childcare, disability support or a relevant care setting is highly desirable.
  • An understanding of safeguarding, professional boundaries, confidentiality and respectful care.
  • Patience, emotional resilience and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
  • Willingness and ability to provide personal care sensitively and respectfully.
  • Good spoken and written English to communicate effectively and complete clear, accurate records.
  • Confidence using computers and electronic recording systems.
  • Reliability, punctuality and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to work rostered day shifts, including weekends and bank holidays.
  • A Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or a relevant qualification is desirable, along with willingness to undertake required training and qualifications.
  • A valid driving licence and willingness to drive for work are desirable.

Safer recruitment

Seva Childcare Ltd is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All staff are expected to share this commitment. Appointment is subject to satisfactory safer recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS check with children’s barred list information, references, right-to-work verification and employment history checks.

To apply, please submit your CV and a brief statement explaining your relevant experience and why you would like to work at Greenview House.
