Multi-Skilled Maintenance Operative

Location: Glastonbury, Somerset – working across Somerset and surrounding areas
Job Type: Full-Time, Part time
Pay: £14.00–£16.00 per hour, depending on experience and ability
Hours: Approximately 20 to 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday

About the Role

JP Maintenance Ltd is looking for a reliable and experienced Multi-Skilled Maintenance Operative to join our growing team.

This is a varied role for someone who enjoys carrying out different types of property maintenance rather than working in one trade every day.

We are looking for a practical all-rounder who can attend customers' properties, identify what needs doing and complete a wide range of general maintenance and repair work to a good standard.

Our work covers both domestic and commercial properties, from small reactive maintenance jobs through to larger refurbishment projects.

Typical Work

Your day-to-day work may include:

  • General property maintenance and repairs
  • Minor carpentry and timber repairs
  • Hanging and adjusting doors
  • Locks, handles and ironmongery
  • Skirting boards and architraves
  • Shelving and fixtures
  • Kitchen repairs and adjustments
  • Bathroom repairs
  • Replacing taps and basic plumbing components where competent
  • Silicone and sealant replacement
  • Basic wall and floor tiling
  • Laminate and other flooring
  • Painting and decorating
  • Patch repairs and making good
  • Minor plaster repairs
  • Flat-pack and furniture assembly
  • Installing blinds, curtain rails and accessories
  • General snagging work
  • Fencing and gate repairs
  • Minor external repairs
  • Garden and property maintenance
  • Assisting our skilled trades on larger projects
  • General maintenance duties as required

No two days are likely to be exactly the same.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has previous property maintenance, handyman or multi-trade experience
  • Is confident using hand and power tools
  • Can complete smaller maintenance jobs independently
  • Has good practical problem-solving skills
  • Can measure and work accurately
  • Produces a tidy and professional finish
  • Takes pride in their workmanship
  • Is reliable and punctual
  • Can work independently and as part of a team
  • Is comfortable working in customers' homes and commercial properties
  • Communicates professionally with customers
  • Keeps work areas clean and organised
  • Has a good understanding of basic health and safety

You do not need to be a qualified expert in every trade. We are looking for a strong general maintenance operative who knows their abilities and when a specialist trade is required.

A full UK driving licence is preferred, as travelling between customer sites and driving company vehicles may form part of the role.

Pay

£14.00–£16.00 per hour depending on experience and ability.

We would expect someone towards the higher end of the range to be genuinely multi-skilled and capable of attending and completing a wide range of maintenance jobs with minimal supervision.

Progression

We are looking for someone who wants a long-term position rather than simply a short-term job.
