Join Our Care Home Team

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Care Home Cook with a passion for traditional British home cooking to join our friendly team in Chertsey.

Food plays an important part in our residents' wellbeing, and familiar, traditional food is particularly important to the people we support. We are looking for someone who is confident preparing classic British dishes, while also having the skills and creativity to prepare a variety of different cuisines and dishes to provide residents with interesting, varied and enjoyable meals.

From traditional roasts and pies to comforting casseroles, stews and other classic British favourites, you will play an important role in providing meals that are familiar, appetising and tailored to the tastes and preferences of our residents.

While traditional British home cooking is particularly important to us, we are also looking for someone who can cook a range of different foods and cuisines. You should be comfortable adapting menus, introducing variety and preparing different dishes to suit residents' preferences, dietary requirements and special occasions.

If your speciality is traditional British home cooking and you also enjoy creating a varied menu, we'd particularly like to hear from you.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Cook or Chef who takes pride in their cooking and wants to use their skills in a rewarding care environment where the food you prepare genuinely makes a difference to people's day.

About the Role

As our Care Home Cook, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the kitchen, ensuring high standards of food quality, hygiene and safety are maintained at all times.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing fresh, nutritious and traditional British home-cooked meals for residents.
  • Preparing a wide range of dishes, including classic British favourites as well as dishes from other cuisines.
  • Preparing traditional British dishes such as roasts, pies, casseroles, stews and other familiar favourites.
  • Creating varied and interesting menus that reflect residents' tastes, preferences and nutritional needs.
  • Adapting meals and menus to provide variety and accommodate individual preferences.
  • Catering for specialist diets, allergies and individual dietary requirements.
  • Ensuring meals are presented attractively and served to a consistently high standard.
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, food hygiene and kitchen safety.
  • Managing food stock and working within agreed budgets.
  • Ensuring compliance with Health & Safety and Food Hygiene regulations.
  • Working closely with the Home Manager and wider care team to provide an excellent dining experience for residents.

What We're Looking For

We are particularly interested in hearing from Cooks or Chefs with strong experience of preparing traditional British cuisine and home-cooked food, who are also confident preparing a variety of different dishes and cuisines.

You will:

  • Have experience preparing traditional British dishes and home-cooked food.
  • Be confident cooking a range of different foods and cuisines.
  • Take pride in producing food that is both tasty and nutritious.
  • Enjoy creating varied menus and trying different dishes.
  • Understand the importance of familiar food and individual preferences in a care environment.
  • Be motivated, reliable and organised.
  • Have excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Be comfortable catering for different dietary requirements.
  • Treat every resident with dignity, respect and compassion.
  • Be able to follow instructions and carry out delegated tasks from the Home Manager.
  • Be committed to delivering an excellent service within a care environment.

Qualifications

Ideally, you will have:

  • NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Catering (or an equivalent catering qualification).
  • Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate.
  • Previous experience working as a Cook or Chef, ideally in a care home, residential setting, hotel, restaurant or other professional kitchen.

Don't Meet Every Requirement?

If you have good experience working in a kitchen or catering environment and, importantly, have a genuine passion for traditional British home cooking, we'd still love to hear from you.

You don't need to specialise in one particular type of cuisine. We are looking for someone who can produce the traditional British food our residents know and love, while also being confident enough to prepare a variety of other dishes and bring variety to the menu.

We are happy to support the right person with training and development to become an excellent Care Home Cook.

*Subject to Terms & Conditions.

We are committed to safe recruitment practices and to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable adults. All appointments are subject to appropriate pre-employment checks, including enhanced DBS clearance where required, and we expect all staff to share this commitment.
