Job description

Lockshop Warehouse is a long-established, family-run locksmith and security business based in Eastbourne.

We are looking for a reliable Shop & Warehouse Operative to join our small team on a full-time, permanent basis.

We are currently preparing to move into our new Eastbourne town-centre shop, and we are looking for someone who is able to start quickly and become part of the team as we make the move.

The main focus of this role is our warehouse and online order operation. A typical day will involve picking and packing customer orders, receiving deliveries, organising stock and keeping orders moving accurately and efficiently.

It is an active role, so you will spend much of the working day on your feet. Some of the work is repetitive by nature, and we need someone who is comfortable carrying out routine tasks consistently and accurately day after day.

Alongside the core warehouse duties, you will also help in our retail shop and gradually learn additional skills including key cutting, key identification and basic locksmith workshop tasks.

Previous locksmith or key-cutting experience is not required. Full training will be provided.

An interest or previous experience in areas such as mechanics, carpentry, woodworking, tools or other practical work would be useful, as these skills can make it easier to understand the products and develop the additional key-cutting and locksmith skills required within the role.

Above all, we are looking for someone who is reliable, accurate, willing to work and keen to learn.

What you'll be doing

  • Picking, packing and dispatching online orders accurately.
  • Receiving, unpacking and checking incoming deliveries.
  • Putting stock away and keeping the warehouse organised.
  • Replenishing stock in the shop and warehouse.
  • Assisting with stock control and regular stock takes.
  • Preparing locks, keys and other products for customer orders.
  • Serving customers in our retail shop when required.
  • Cutting and identifying keys following training.
  • Answering customer telephone and email enquiries.
  • Helping customers identify suitable locks, keys and security products following training.
  • Carrying out basic workshop and product preparation tasks.
  • Keeping the shop, warehouse and work areas clean, organised and safe.
  • Assisting with other general shop and warehouse duties as required.

About you

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is comfortable working on their feet for much of the day.
  • Is happy carrying out routine and repetitive warehouse tasks.
  • Can work accurately and consistently, even when completing similar tasks throughout the day.
  • Has good attention to detail when picking, packing and preparing customer orders.
  • Is reliable, punctual, honest and trustworthy.
  • Has a positive, can-do attitude and is happy to help wherever needed.
  • Takes pride in doing a job properly.
  • Can work independently as well as part of a small team.
  • Is friendly and comfortable dealing with customers.
  • Has good communication skills.
  • Is comfortable using computers and learning new systems.
  • Is physically comfortable with normal warehouse duties, including lifting and moving stock.
  • Is keen to learn key cutting and other practical skills as part of the role.
  • Has the right to work in the UK.
  • Is able to start reasonably quickly.

Experience or a personal interest in mechanics, carpentry, woodworking, tools, machinery or similar practical areas would also be an advantage. These skills are not the main purpose of the role, but they should help you progress into key cutting and other locksmith-related tasks as your training develops.

What is important is that you are willing to learn. Key cutting will become an important part of the position, and we are looking for someone who wants to develop these additional skills alongside their day-to-day warehouse responsibilities.
