Full job description

Anglia Highways Ltd is seeking a motivated and reliable Highways operative to join our growing highways maintenance team.

Working alongside experienced highways operatives and gangers, you will assist in delivering a range of routine maintenance and improvement works across the highway network. This is a hands-on outdoor role offering variety, training opportunities, and the chance to develop a long-term career within the highways industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting highways gangs with routine maintenance works.
  • Supporting asphalt and carriageway repair operations.
  • Assisting with access and footway improvement works.
  • Verge maintenance and vegetation management.
  • Kerb laying and associated civil engineering works.
  • Loading, unloading, and handling materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Setting up and maintaining safe work sites in accordance with health and safety requirements.
  • Supporting winter maintenance operations.

Winter Operations

From October to April, the successful candidate will be required to support our winter service operations, including:

  • Loading winter maintenance vehicles.
  • Supporting gritting and winter response activities.
  • Availability for evening and weekend winter duties on a rota basis.

Requirements

  • Full UK Driving Licence (essential).
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Good attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work safely as part of a team.
  • Previous experience within highways, construction, groundworks, or civil engineering is desirable but not essential as training will be provided.

Desirable Qualifications

  • CSCS Card.
  • Lantra or highways-related qualifications.
  • HGV licence (advantageous but not essential).
  • NRSWA Street Works Accreditation.
  • Emergency First Aid at Work qualification.
  • Telehandler certification.
