We’re looking for a talented, confident and customer-focused artist to join the MattB Customs team.

This is a hands-on creative role split between our studio in Worsley and our Trafford Centre concession. You’ll be creating custom footwear and accessories, while also spending a significant part of your role speaking with customers, helping them develop their ideas and taking orders in-store.

We’re looking for someone who is just as comfortable talking to customers and representing the brand as they are sitting down with a paintbrush.

Who are we?

MattB Customs is a custom footwear and accessories brand specialising in unique, handcrafted products you won’t find on the high street.

Over the years, we’ve created products for some of the biggest names in the world, including Ariana Grande, Marcus Rashford and Ed Sheeran, and worked with brands including Google, JD Sports and Netflix.

Alongside our website and Worsley studio, we also operate our concession in JD Sports, Trafford Centre and regularly work on live events, brand activations and pop-ups across the UK and overseas.

What you’ll be doing

Your role will be split between creating custom products and delivering a great customer experience.

On the creative side, you’ll work alongside our studio team to fulfil website and retail orders. This could range from painting clean, solid panels and repeat designs through to creating detailed one-of-one customs from digital mock-ups and customer references.

When working at our Trafford Centre concession, you’ll also be responsible for speaking directly with customers. You’ll help people understand what we offer, discuss their ideas, recommend suitable customisation options and confidently guide them through placing an order.

Working hours will be allocated via a 4 week rota, and will include day shifts, evening shifts & weekend shifts. Hours will be approx 35 per week and overtime may be available. Working hours are between 9am - 8pm in 8 hour shifts with a 1 hour unpaid break.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Painting and customising footwear and accessories to a consistently high standard
• Working from digital mock-ups, reference images and customer briefs
• Speaking to customers in-store and helping them develop their custom ideas
• Explaining our products, customisation options, pricing and ordering process
• Taking customer orders accurately and making sure all relevant details are captured
• Providing friendly, confident and professional customer service
• Representing MattB Customs and maintaining a high standard of presentation at our Trafford Centre concession
• Managing multiple customer and website orders while working to deadlines
• Supporting live events, brand activations and pop-ups when required
• Working closely with the wider team across both the studio and retail environments

What you’ll need

Essential

• A portfolio demonstrating your creative ability
• Strong fine art, illustration or painting skills
• Experience using paint confidently and accurately
• Ability to recreate designs from digital references and mock-ups
• Excellent attention to detail
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Confidence speaking directly with customers
• Ability to understand a customer brief and translate it into an order
• Ability to work effectively to deadlines
• Flexibility around working hours, including weekends
• Ability to follow direction while also bringing your own creativity to the role

Advantageous

• Previous retail or customer-facing experience
• Experience taking orders or working in a sales environment
• Experience customising sneakers
• Experience working with fabrics or sewing

Previous sneaker customisation experience is not essential, as full training will be provided.

What matters most is that you’re a talented creative who enjoys working with people, takes pride in delivering great work and can give customers a great experience from the moment they approach us through to placing their order.

Pay: £13.00 per hour
