With industry-standard facilities and strong links to employers, we support students to develop the skills, creativity and professional practice needed to succeed in the creative industries.
The primary function is to support the work of Lecturers in ensuring that learners receive high-quality support and their individual requirements are met. Learning Assistants also ensure that learning environments, materials and equipment are effectively maintained and appropriately recorded. This is a key role within the team, providing practical, technical and digital support to teaching staff and students across Art and Design studio environments and Mac Labs, helping learners to develop their skills, confidence and independence.
You must be educated to a minimum level of HND or equivalent in a related discipline. The successful applicant should be occupationally competent and possess a strong knowledge and understanding of the Art and Design industry, particularly making processes within Art and Design, with a focus on Contemporary Art Practice with knowledge in digital processes supporting the delivery of contemporary Art and Design learning.
The successful applicant will support the safe use, basic maintenance and supervision of specialist equipment, including laser cutters and AV equipment. Previous experience of these or similar technologies would be desirable, with appropriate training and support provided to develop the required skills where necessary. The role will also provide practical and technical support to students and Lecturers across studio, workshop and Mac Lab environments, helping learners to develop their skills and confidence in the use of materials, equipment and digital technologies.
You should be confident in using initiative and practical problem-solving skills to respond to the varied needs of students and teaching staff within a busy creative learning environment.
Applicants should have experience of ordering and preparing specialist materials and equipment and be able to demonstrate the relevant skills required to play a key role in exhibition installations and the use of specialist equipment.
You must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with learners of different abilities and with staff across the College. You will be a collaborative member of the Learning Assistant team and contribute positively to the wider activities of the Department
