Full job description

We are working with an established national main contractor who are looking to appoint a Trainee / Assistant Site Manager to join their project team on a major refurbishment scheme in Birmingham City Centre.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious construction professional looking to develop their site management career within a structured and supportive environment, working alongside an experienced Site Management team.

The Role

As a Trainee / Assistant Site Manager, you will support the Site Management team in the day-to-day delivery of the project, gaining valuable experience across all aspects of construction management from pre-start through to completion.

Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the Site Manager with the day-to-day management of site activities.
  • Coordinating subcontractors and monitoring progress against the programme.
  • Assisting with site inductions, toolbox talks and daily briefings.
  • Monitoring health, safety, quality and environmental standards on site.
  • Assisting with the coordination and sequencing of works.
  • Reviewing drawings, specifications and construction information.
  • Carrying out site inspections and monitoring workmanship.
  • Assisting with RAMS implementation and ensuring works are undertaken safely.
  • Liaising with subcontractors, suppliers and the wider project team.
  • Recording progress and reporting any issues to the Site Manager.
  • Supporting the delivery of the project to programme, budget and quality requirements.

Education, skills and experience:

  • HNC / HND or Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience working on a UK construction site.
  • Experience within a main contracting environment would be advantageous.
  • Some exposure to refurbishment, fit-out or commercial construction projects.
  • A strong understanding of health & safety requirements.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • A proactive attitude with a genuine desire to develop into a Site Manager.
  • The ability to work effectively with subcontractors and the wider project team.
