Full job description

Trainee Water Leakage Technician - site job with full training

Following a successful recruitment campaign we are looking for a further two people to join us as Trainee Water Leakage Technicians, due to client demand. You don’t need any experience as you will be fully trained to the highest standard.

We need hard working people with a great attitude. You can be any age or gender, but you will need to be fit and healthy as the job is based outdoors and can involve a lot of walking.

Come and join a great company. We will pay you well above the market rate and value what you do on a day to day basis. Check out our reviews online to see what our staff say, such as:

“A small company with brilliant values, friendly people and doing something good for the world” – Glassdoor review

This is a chance for you to join the water industry. You can build your career in an industry that will always be needed and help the environment by reducing leakage.

Are you interested in this great opportunity?

We will train you to the highest standards giving you the skills to ensure you will always be able to work in the water industry. The skills you learn will be transferable to other industries if you choose. You have nothing to lose.

You will get a great sense of job satisfaction by helping to find and fix hidden water leaks.

What’s in it for you?

This is a full-time permanent job. Our office is based in Woodley near Reading but you will work outdoors in both urban and rural settings. Your job will involve travelling to sites in Thames Valley, Hampshire or London. You will be provided with a modern van (heated seats and adaptive cruise control etc) to get you there.

  • In your first year you will earn £31,600 comprising of:
  • Trainee starting salary - £26,000 per annum
  • Achievable performance related bonus of £300 per month or £3,600 per year. In the last 10 years every technician has received their full monthly bonus.
  • A £2,000 Xmas bonus when we hit our company targets. (In 23 years the company has only ever missed one project target).
  • 33 days annual leave – (25 days + 8 bank holidays)
  • Government backed pension scheme
  • Hours of work – 40 hours per week
  • Monday to Friday to include occasional overnight shifts
  • Overnight shifts get paid more
  • Occasional weekend working

On completion of your training you will be promoted to Water Leakage Technician. This generally takes 18 months. After this you will get the following:

  • Annual earnings of £37,200 comprising of:
  • A salary increase to - £28,000
  • Achievable performance related bonus scheme - £600 per month or £7,200 per year. This is not pie in the sky but something that always gets paid if you work hard.
  • The £2,000 Xmas bonus when we hit our targets.

What you would be doing day to day in your new role:

You will be coached and supported by the Training Manager, Leakage Supervisors and Senior Technicians. Your training will be mainly on the job with some external courses.

Some of your time will be spent working solo and the rest with a colleague. To get to and from site, this position will require around 2 hours of driving a day plus some short drives between jobs - in a very well kitted out and comfortable van.

You also need to be prepared to work in all weathers - although we certainly wouldn’t expect you to carry on if the weather conditions don’t allow you to.

A large part of your day will be hunting for leaks by listening to fire hydrants and valves. You will follow this up by tracing water pipes and pinpointing leaks using ground acoustic microphones and correlators. You will progress to operating valves, checking water meters and proving customer side leaks. We will train you on all these techniques.

Once the leak has been located, you will report this to our office team using our software apps. A job will then be raised for the water company to get the leak repaired.

As with every job there are some parts which can be repetitive. However when you have found that noisy valve or elusive leak and see it get resolved, you will get a great sense of achievement.

As a company we are constantly looking for ways to improve our processes and become better at what we do. You will get to trial new software that our software team has developed, whilst out on site. We are always open to suggestions as to how we can improve.

You will go on the following courses: EUSR National Water Hygiene, Thames Water Passport, Street Works, Calm Valve Operation, First Aid.

We will need to get you DBS checked. This is a criminal record check used to assess the suitability of employees who might at times be required to enter vulnerable customer’s homes.

Your Values/Attitudes and Motivations:

You will need to be hardworking, honest, conscientious and loyal. You enjoy a challenge and want to carry out every task to the best of your abilities. You want to help the environment by reducing water leakage.

You will need the following skills:

Attention to detail

Computer literate

Full UK driving licence

Excellent time management

Able to interpret maps

Great attitude to work

Do you want to know about Teccura Software?

We help our clients find leaks that have often been undetected for months, sometimes even years.

We do this by using the apps that our software team have developed, alongside the most up to date leakage detection equipment and of course the knowledge of our experienced engineers.

Over the last 10 years on one project alone we have detected and repaired over 92,500,000 litres of leakage per day.

“As soon as we started using Teccura we noticed a major improvement in the time spent finding and repairing the leaks and the costs involved, not to mention the savings on lost water, due to getting the repairs completed quickly.” Customer review - Engineering Manager – Engie

Water shortages will become more of a problem for the UK over the next decade. We are proud that as a company we are doing our bit to drive down leakage and in doing so have become a carbon negative company.
