Full job description

Based in Wellington, Somerset, the Asbestos Analyst carries out analysis of materials suspected of containing asbestos, working in a friendly laboratory environment with a team of five other analysts. This role would suit anyone with an interest in examining samples and using microscopic techniques. No previous experience is necessary as full training will be given.

Samples received must be inspected initially in a glove box under a stereo-microscope for the presence of fibres and then the fibres are mounted onto microscope slides and examined further under plane polarised light microscopy. All observations are noted and then the resulting fibre types identified are recorded electronically on our TEAMS computer system together with the classification of the type of material.

The position is based on a 35-hour working week with a starting salary of £23,650, rising to £24,650 (£13.51 per hour) after the after the initial three month training period. A minimum of 5 GCSE’s including Maths, English and science is required. The company operates a flexi-time scheme. The company offers 4 weeks paid leave per year plus all nationally recognised Bank Holidays and three additional days over the Christmas period. The post holder will be able to join the company pension scheme upon completion of a three-month probation period.

The company will expect the post holder to be hardworking and dedicated and be able to take some responsibility for their own workload.
