ABOUT SCOTTISH ORTHODONTICS

Scottish Orthodontics is a long established reputable Orthodontics provider across Edinburgh. Our teams ensure the highest quality of service for Private and NHS patients using the latest techniques.

We have our own dedicated in-house team of qualified lab technicians and lab assistants, who provide an excellent service to the clinicians and patients.

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Dental Laboratory Assistant to join our dynamic team. This role involves supporting the dental technicians in creating high-quality dental orthodontic appliances. No previous experience is required, however an interest in the dental sector is helpful. All training will be provided by the qualified technicians. We also offer the opportunity for an assistant to train to become a qualified dental technician, after one year of service and also depending upon competency.

About the Role

As a Dental Laboratory Assistant, you will be instrumental in the production of orthodontic appliances under supervision of the dental lab technician.

Your responsibilities will include a variety of tasks, from traditional techniques to cutting-edge technologies. All training will be provided on site.

The ideal candidate will have had some experience of working in a dental lab, but this is not essential.

Key Responsibilities:

• Traditional Laboratory Techniques: Preparing dental impressions for casting, pouring and trimming dental models, cleaning and sterilising dental lab equipment, and maintaining a clean and organized laboratory environment.
• Digital 3D Printing : Our labs are equipped with 3D printers for creating dental impressions. We currently use software for creating the images for print. An interest in this area would be strongly essential.
• Team Support: Assisting dental technicians with various tasks, such as packing and unpacking dental materials, and contributing to a positive and collaborative team environment.

Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will possess a strong combination of manual dexterity skills and a keen eye for detail. They will be a team player with excellent communication and time management abilities. The candidate must have a creative flair, and enjoys working with thier hands in a practical role.

Essential Skills:

• Proficiency in using computers and basic IT applications
• Use of 3D printers and understanding 3D printing
• Strong manual dexterity and attention to detail
• Ability to follow instructions accurately and consistently
• Excellent time management and organisational skills
• A positive and collaborative attitude
• Ability to handle queries over the phone and via email

Desirable Skills:

• Experience in 3D printing
• Dental background or knowledge of dental terminology (not essential)
• Some lab assistant experience (not essential)
• A creative , arts or crafts background would lend it self well for this role

SALARY:

The hourly rate is dependent upon experience.

Starting at £25,500 negotiable depending upon experience.

Hours of Work:

Full time , 38 hours per week.

Holiday: 28 days per year (inc of statutory bank holidays)

VACCINATIONS

You will be required to have the essential vaccinations to handle all items within a lab. This will be discussed with the selected candidate.
