About Scientific Safety Alliance (SSA)

At Scientific Safety Alliance (SSA), we're on a mission to revolutionize how scientists experience regulation-mandated services. We provide testing, inspection, and calibration services—and supply air filters and equipment parts—to pharmaceutical, medical device, and research organizations across the U.S. and the U.K.

We're growing fast. With 24 acquisitions in less than 3 years, a customer base of 13,500+, and a spot on Inc. Magazine's 2024 and 2025 Fastest-Growing Private Companies, SSA is scaling quickly—and looking for bold, driven talent to grow with us.

Role Overview

The Calibration Engineer (Trainee) supports the delivery of high-quality calibration and repair services across a range of precision equipment used in the Aerospace, Pharmaceutical, Engineering, NHS, and Private Hospital sectors. This is a field-based role combining laboratory work at our Bridport facility with on-site visits to customer premises across the UK.

Full on-the-job training covering all aspects of the role will be provided and is expected to last 12 months. Regular assessments will be carried out to comply with our UKAS Accreditation requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Calibration & Technical Work

  • Perform calibration and repair of equipment used across Aerospace, Pharmaceutical, Engineering, NHS, and Private Hospital environments
  • Carry out both on-site calibration work at customer premises and laboratory-based calibrations
  • Maintain accurate calibration records in line with UKAS Accreditation standards
  • Complete regular assessments to comply with accreditation requirements

Field Work & Customer Visits

  • Travel to various customer sites throughout the UK as required
  • Represent SSA professionally during on-site visits
  • Occasional overnight stays

Operational & Administrative

  • Use modern IT technology including iPad and iPhone to manage job records and communications
  • Work independently and as part of a team with strong organisational skills
  • Support day-to-day operations across the team

What Success Looks Like

  • Calibrations are completed accurately and on schedule
  • Customer sites are visited professionally with minimal disruption
  • UKAS accreditation standards are consistently met
  • Training milestones are achieved within the expected 12-month programme
  • Equipment records are maintained accurately and completely

Qualifications & Skills

Core Competencies

  • Strong attention to detail and technical accuracy
  • Good organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
  • Strong sense of ownership and follow-through
  • Willingness to travel extensively (100% travel readiness required)

Technical Skills

  • Knowledge in electrical or mechanical disciplines
  • Comfortable with modern IT technology (iPad, iPhone, and related systems)
  • Ability to learn and apply new technical skills during the training programme

Experience

  • 1 year of experience in electrical or mechanical work (required)
  • Prior calibration or inspection experience is a plus

Licence / Certification

  • Full UK Driving Licence (required)
  • Must be able to reliably commute to or relocate near Bridport, DT6 3LL before starting
  • Right to work in the United Kingdom (required)

Work Environment & Expectations

  • Monday to Friday, full-time
  • Mix of field-based and laboratory-based work
  • High standards for technical accuracy, professionalism, and accountability
  • Team-oriented culture with close collaboration across engineers and office support team
  • Ideally located within 20 miles of Bridport

Why You'll Love It Here

  • A mission that matters—supporting scientific innovation through compliance and safety
  • A culture that values autonomy, embracing change, integrity, openness, and urgency
  • Room to grow professionally—we're scaling fast and investing in our people
  • Exposure to leading Aerospace, Pharma, NHS, and research organisations
  • Company van provided for field travel

Pay: £25,000.00-£30,000.00 per year
