The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Trainee Engineer to join our North West Engineering Team, based from our Chorley or Carlisle office. This opportunity is aimed at motivated individuals looking to start a career in Civil Engineering. We welcome applications from college leavers who have completed A-Levels or T-Levels and are keen to progress through a Degree Apprenticeship programme, as well as candidates seeking a more traditional trainee route, combining practical site experience with part-time study towards an HNC qualification. Whichever pathway you follow, you will gain hands-on experience working alongside experienced engineers while developing the technical knowledge and professional skills needed for a successful career in the civil engineering industry.

What we are looking for

  • A genuine interest in Civil Engineering and a desire to build a long-term career within the industry.
  • Motivated, enthusiastic, and willing to learn through a combination of practical site experience and academic study.
  • Able to meet the minimum academic entry requirements for the chosen development pathway, whether that is an HNC or Degree Apprenticeship programme in Civil Engineering.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively alongside colleagues, clients, and subcontractors.
  • Good problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to challenges.
  • Willingness to work in a site-based environment and travel to project locations as required.
  • A full UK driving licence as this is a site-based role.
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office applications, with a willingness to develop digital and engineering software skills.
  • Committed to maintaining high standards of health, safety, quality, and environmental compliance.
  • Reliable, organised, and able to manage competing priorities while meeting deadlines.
