Full job description

Company Overview

Prem Group is building a specialist technical services group focused on the building envelope covering access, roofing, cladding, surveys, and remedial works.

We don’t operate like a traditional contractor. We diagnose problems, design solutions, and deliver high-quality work through specialist knowledge and strong commercial control.

Our aim is simple: be the go-to team for solving complex building envelope problems.

About the Role

This is not a traditional Trainee or Assistant QS role where you are stuck doing take-offs or supporting from the sidelines.

As a Trainee / Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will sit between project delivery and commercial management, supporting the financial performance of projects while developing into a fully capable, commercially aware QS.

This role blends:

  • Project coordination
  • Commercial support
  • Cost tracking and financial control
  • Applications for payment and valuations

You won’t just be learning, you’ll be contributing to real project profitability and commercial decisions from day one.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Supporting the preparation of applications for payment
  • Assisting with valuations, variations, and commercial tracking
  • Monitoring project costs vs budgets
  • Supporting subcontractor management and payments
  • Assisting in forecasting and cash flow tracking
  • Maintaining commercial and contractual records
  • Liaising with site teams, Project Executives, and Finance
  • Supporting project delivery with commercial insight
  • Identifying risks, variances, and opportunities

What This Role Really Is

This role sits between:

  • Project Executive
  • Assistant Quantity Surveyor
  • Quantity Surveyor

You are not just supporting; you are developing into someone who understands:

  • How projects run
  • How projects make money
  • How projects stay profitable

About You

We are not looking for someone who just wants a “trainee” title.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has some experience in construction, project coordination, or commercial support
  • Has exposure to applications, invoicing, or project costs
  • Wants to build a career in commercial / QS roles
  • Is highly organised and detail-driven
  • Takes ownership of their work
  • Is proactive and eager to learn
  • Can operate in a fast-paced, high-expectation environment

What You’ll Get

  • £28,000 – £40,000 salary (depending on experience)
  • Clear pathway into Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Manager roles
  • Hands-on exposure to live commercial projects
  • Ongoing training and development
  • 28 days holiday plus benefits

Training & Development

You will gain:

  • Strong understanding of commercial construction processes
  • Hands-on experience with applications, valuations, and cost control
  • Financial awareness of project delivery
  • A clear pathway into a fully-fledged QS role

Why This Role Works

  • You are involved in real commercial decisions early
  • You gain a highly valuable, transferable skillset
  • You are not limited to admin or theory
  • You are part of a commercially driven business

The Reality

This is a performance-driven role:

  • You will be expected to learn quickly
  • You will be trusted with responsibility
  • You will need to be organised and detail-focused

If you want a slow, low-responsibility trainee role, this isn’t it. If you want progression, exposure, and commercial ownership, it is.
