Post No. POSN003137 Welsh Language Translation Officer

Are you passionate about the Welsh language and its use in public services? Newport City Council is offering a rare and exciting opportunity for a Welsh Language Translation Officer to help deliver high-quality bilingual services across the organisation and within our communities.

Working within the Policy and Partnership Team, you will support the Welsh Language Translation Manager in delivering translation and proofreading services, maintaining Welsh language online content, and helping to ensure compliance with the Welsh Language Standards.

You’ll provide English–Welsh and Welsh–English translation for a wide range of documents, support the Council’s Welsh language website and social media, and offer guidance to staff on bilingual design. You will also help promote the Welsh language internally and externally and build relationships with key partners.

Applicants must have experience of Welsh language translation, excellent Welsh and English communication skills, and knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Welsh Language (Wales) Measure 2011 and the Equality Act 2010.

Welsh language skills are essential for this role.

For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Liam Flynn (Welsh Translation Manager): liam.flynn@newport.gov.uk

We welcome applications for all our jobs in either Welsh or English. An application submitted in Welsh will not be treated less favourably than an application submitted in English.

Newport City Council is committed to working towards its workforce being more representative of the population that we serve and particularly welcomes applications from people from minority ethnic communities represented (or living) in the city. Selection will be made on ability and skills to undertake the role.

Newport City Council is not currently supporting applicants with sponsorship for right to work. In applying for a vacancy, applicants should already have the right to work in the UK.

Our values – Fairness for all, Making a difference, Being responsible, Working together

Ein gwerthoedd – Tegwch i Bawb, Gwneud Gwahaniaeth, Bod yn Gyfrifol, Gweithio gyda'n gilydd
