Groundworker / Trainee Tree Surgeon — Hersham, Surrey

£120–£150 a day, depending on experience. That's £600–£750 a week for a full five days.

We're a small tree surgery firm based in Hersham and we're busy enough to need another pair of hands on the ground. Full-time, Monday to Friday, start as soon as you're ready.

No experience? That's fine.

We'd rather take someone with the right attitude and train them than take someone with tickets who can't be relied on. If you're fit, reliable and you actually want to learn the trade, we'll teach you to use a chainsaw safely and show you how the job is done properly.

If you've come from a warehouse, a building site, landscaping, farming or the forces and you fancy being outdoors doing something skilled, this is a genuine way in.

What the job looks like

You're the engine of the crew. Dragging brash and feeding the chipper, logging up, roping and lowering for the climber, stump grinding, and leaving every garden tidier than we found it.

It's physical and it's outdoors in all weather. Most days are full ones, but the harder the crew works the sooner we're done, and some days you'll get away early.

Mostly domestic work in gardens across Surrey and South West London, so you're home every night. No overnights, no long motorway runs.

What we're looking for

• Turn up on time and get on with it
• Use your initiative, but ask when you're not sure. Nobody here minds being asked
• Fit enough for a full day of physical work outdoors
• Safe, tidy, and decent with customers, since most of our work is in people's homes
• Driving licence preferred but not essential
• Right to work in the UK. Some of our sites are schools, so you'll need to be happy with a DBS check

Where it can lead

Plenty of people start on the ground and end up in the tree, and we'd rather grow our own climbers than keep advertising for them. If that's where you want to go, say so. Stick with us and we'll help you get there, pointing you at the right tickets and helping towards them, time on the rope on real jobs, and teaching from people who climb every day. As your tickets and ability grow, so does your rate.

And if you're happy staying on the ground and being very good at it, that's a proper job here too. Not everyone wants to climb and nobody's pushed.

Treemedic is a small, CHAS-accredited tree surgery team based in Hersham, Surrey, looking after trees across Surrey and South West London. Safe working, tidy sites, and we look after the people on them.

The terms, straight

This is a self-employed, day-rate position to start, paid weekly. PAYE is available after a successful trial period. We're upfront about this so there are no surprises.
